Rodgers and Pardew on the other hand are just natural cunts, they can't help it, whereas Mourinho has a certain like ability.
Having said that, having read the book about his time at Real Madrid, far bigger questions are raised about his 'arry like transfer dealings at both Real and Chelsea first time round, where he would only pick players represented by a certain agent, and was almost certainly getting kickbacks for signing them from other clubs and marginalising existing players until they signed with said agent. He is a very dodgy cunt, and it's surprising he got away with what he has to date from the financial perspective
John,
The more I read about this sort of stuff, the more I understand how corrupt it all is. I think the practice of managers and agents feeding off each other has been going on for many years and is very deep rooted. OMERTA....It is the secret (among a number of others) that daren't be spoken about. The point where Football, high finance and criminality meet but Sshhhhhhhhhh!
I also believe this has tainted our own club under at least 2 managers pre Mansour. I was told about stuff happening at the swamp a number of years ago regarding a young prospect and there is a reported link between a famous manager,West Brom and a particular agent.
Those involved would consider it a perk of the trade and part of the game.
As the media allfeed from the same toxic trough,I am not surprised it is not public knowledge or reported on,or that Maureen or anyone else gets away with it.
Yes, it's depressing that it is clearly quite widespread, and you can kind of understand in the days before big money entered the game, why managers would want a cut of a profit on a player sale. These days though, at the top of the tree, it seems indefensible. Jorge Mendes, even had the biggest office at the Real Madrid training ground, and thus there wasn't even any pretence to what was going on.
THEN, you get articles like this from the Telegraph this summer, clearly knowing the situation is bent but refusing to ask pertinent questions, and then going as far as saying there is nothing wrong with it!
"Diego Costa’s impending £32 million move to Chelsea represents another triumph for Jorge Mendes, who is rightly described as a super-agent. It also marks another piece of big transfer business in which Jose Mourinho has acquired a player represented by the man who represents him.
A conservative estimate is that Costa will become the seventh Mendes client Mourinho has signed for Chelsea over two spells. And at least one other is to follow. Add in Inter Milan and Real Madrid and Mourinho has made at least 12 signings involving Mendes.
There is absolutely nothing wrong in that especially as Mendes’ has such a good track record of delivering. Many managers share agents – or agencies – with players they buy: such as West Ham United’s Sam Allardyce who is looked after by the agent Mark Curtis whose biggest clients include the club’s record purchase Andy Carroll and captain Kevin Nolan.
The links between Mourinho and Mendes are extremely strong and date from the day the agent gained the mandate to organise the manager’s departure from Porto to join Chelsea back in the summer of 2004.
Such is Mendes’s influence and ability to get things done that it is often said that any player – or coach – who leaves Portugal usually has to go through him. That is not far from the truth such is the reputation he has for getting deals done."
