Do not rate Pepe - especially at that price. Am hoping this is just lazy journalism as we were linked to him last year. Rather have MDM playing than Pepe.

I know it's difficult to get top class players, but I'd rather see us spend £35-£45 million on a quality player that will be around for a while than an ageing one for 10 million less that will be in and out for the duration of his stay.

Let's hope you are right because this just sounds stupid. With all the FFP crap that has gone on and PSG in the shit after their 50 mill buy, we don't want to go wasting money on old has-bins.

Sounds ridiculous because that's what it is.

any other CB targets that we've been linked to aside from Marquinhos, Mangala, Benatia, and now Pepe?

Shakhtar Donetsk are in danger of complete implosion as a result of being in the middle of a war zone with no obvious end in site. They have a bunch of Brasilians who may well want out and could come cheap. One is a small winger Bernard whose agent is trying to get his contract cancelled. A suggestion from the agent that we might be interested.

I've watched Bernard a few times. Not tough enough for England. He'll need to do some Manning up before he starts.

Shakhtar is owned by a fabulously wealthy oligarch so they don't need to sell. The problem is that they play in the Ukrainian League and it looks impossible for them to continue to do so in the autumn located as they are in the middle of the self proclaimed Dpnbass Republic. The owner supported the pro Russian speaking political party but wants a United Ukraine which is completely opposed by the new self appointed leaders of Donetsk. There is fighting going on very close to Donetsk and it's not clear how the situation can be resolved peacefully. His business interests could now be threatened. I can't see anyone wanting to travel there for CL matches even though they are Champions of the Ukraine. It's a terrible situation and you could imagine all the expensive Brasilians imports wanting out. Without being cruel we should be looking at the situation carefully for possible bargains. We won't be the only ones.
I know nothing about Bernard apart from the fact that he's small fast and skilful but you may well be right that he might be too slight to prosper in our a League. We've got Navas too so unless he payed as a right footer on the left it's not obvious that we need him.

True, but I wouldn't mind seeing him here. Great pace and dribbling and lots of potential.

Maybe we could buy him now and send him on loan somewhere until next Sumner?

Sagna's playing in Lille tonight for the national team. They must be leaving for Brasil tomorrow or the next day. If he 's going to sign before the World Cup he has to pass a medical tomorrow surely.

RSC, Rodwell, Jovetic. I think if you can gasp out your name, you pass, so you can probably do it on the phone

Martin Blackburn northern football correspondent of the Sun had the following takes:
Fernando to sign this week but we'll keep Garcia
Sagna no official word till July 1 when Arsenal contract ends but it's done. Possible that Sagna may make it public beforehand. (If a contract hasn't been signed what happens if a Sagna has a serious injury at the WC though?).
Mangala deal cooled. Benatia alternative. Believes we have a plan C but doesn't know what it is. Doubts Pepe.
