I'll always be grateful to Barnes for leaving his job a pundit on GMR. His ear-splitting groans and moans in the background wrecked the commentary and I think Ratboy may have modelled his famous goal ejaculation on Peter's wailing. He is also monumentally thick.

I think that's a perfectly valid opinion. But the follow up question is how much of the blame for the apparent drop in performance levels is down to the individual players and how much is down to Mancini? I'd personally blame the players more than Mancini. We've been undone by stupid individual mistakes (defending and missed chances) in many big games. The players have been put in the position to deliver, they just haven't followed through consistently enough.

No one wants to win more than Mancini and this is well documented. Everyone applauds Tevez and Suarez for their determination, but I'd argue that Mancini is a level above both of them or anyone else when it comes being determined to win. For the past 2 years (even after winning the title) Mancini constantly says in interviews "Is good, but we must improve. We must always work harder to improve." Which is one of the main reasons why I think he is perfect for City.

Well I agree with the last line but that's why I'm so pissed off; because I expected a kind of consolidation of our recent improvement this season. I figured we would cement our system & style of play & put in a strong (but possibly losing) challenge for the title & find out which players deserve keeping & which deserve moving on before the next stage.

I think few players have done themselves favours & Mancini got caught up in trying new tactics pre season rather than just sharpening up the squad. We have lacked inspiration from both players & manager.

I just think we need to write it off at the end & start next season as if this one never happened.

Writing this season off after winning the FA cup and coming runners up in the Premier League ??????

Surely if this happens it will be MCFC,s greatest ever season wont it ?

How very odd ?

Whilst I don't think this season is as bad as others on here think, even if we win the FA Cup and finish second, I think it's fair to say last season was better!

Is this your first season supporting us?

:-)

Almost 50 years pal.

It was so much better before tinternet ! :)

I agree with Barnes in principle and that managers are always on a 12 month cycle unless things go Pete Tong. However, what he is failing to take into account is our owners and how they view things. They are not just here to be seen doing the right things, they do it out of loyalty and understanding. A lot of people are assuming that they brought the Barca boys in to try and undermine Mancini in some sort of way but the reality is that they were brought in to do a job and to do that alongside the manager, not in conflict with him.

With these 2 additions you can bet your bottom dollar that they are working tirelessly in all areas to make the club better and more efficient. They will probably already be in contact with future signings reporting back to the Chairman where we are on procedings. They'll be scouring the youth market and putting plans into place for the future of our club, whether that be player acquisition or commercial partners, nothing will be left to chance.

We, as a club, have taken huge bounds in such a short time (let us not forget that) that it becomes sometimes unbelievable where we have landed. Currently Champions of England and sat comfortably in the top tier of the biggest league in the world. Yes, there'll be slip-ups along the way but I can guarantee you that we are going to be here for the foreseeable future, if not for a generation or more.

Everything is in place, the owner, the board, the manager and the players, it's all there in plain view. It's just a matter of time before it all kicks back into place and the City flotilla is sailing proudly along the Manchester Ship Canal with The Golden Eagle souring majestically over head. We've just pulled into port at the moment with the majority of the journey still to come.

Steady on, old chap, in some quarters your comment might be mischievously construed as a bit of obsequious boot-licking (which I'm sure it wasn't).

In any event, there's nothing wrong with "mumblers" who serve up dreary "plod posts". It's a well known fact that anyone can be excitingly charismatic, possessing boat-loads of personal magnetism, style, flair and profound personality. It's so easy to be someone that others would follow to the ends of the earth (i.e. Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Adolf Hitler inter alia) and have that innate ability to conquer all minds by the nimbleness of their intellect.

On the other hand, it's the hardest thing in the world to be abjectly boring. It takes skill, determination, dedication, single-minded discipline and out and out, bloody-minded ability. It's a hard and lonely road to travel when all around you are assuming the mantles popularity but at the heart of every pettyfogging dullard, is the over-riding principle which states "why follow a multitude into folly ?"

Anyone can be exciting but it's taken me a veritable lifetime to be dull and boring so, mark my words, I really know what I'm talking about.

He said a while ago he would be at Swansea next season, as would Michu.

In all honesty, I can see Mancini being here for the foreseeable future. The only way he will leave is if we fall apart at the seams (can't see that happening) or if he decides to walk due to family needs.

I'll have some of what he's having. I hope the Barton swing bridge can cope with that lot heading along the cut. :)

Looks like the Mail are scratching around for stories today. Basically saying we have been shunned by all the top managers and that we are now after Valencia's Valverde. What jumped out in this latest story is how they confirm we are considering his appointment early on in the piece and then state that it is 'believed' nearer to the end.

Are we really going down a list of managers only to be snubbed at every turn?

City board consider swoop for Valencia's Valverde to replace Mancini at the Etihad

Manchester City could be ready to replace Roberto Mancini with a manager many of their fans may not have even heard of.

The board of the Premier League champions are considering offering the Italian’s role to Valencia boss Ernesto Valverde.

Top target Pep Guardiola is no longer on the market, since agreeing to take charge of Bayern Munich next season, and Malaga’s Manuel Pelligrini, who has also been linked with a move to the Etihad, would be likely to reject any approach for his services.

With those two high-profile coaches out of the running to replace Mancini, and Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp likely to follow, Valverde is seen as a viable option by City chief executive Ferran Soriano and director of football Txiki Begiristain, according to the Sunday Times.

The 49-year-old coach guided Espanyol to the 2007 UEFA Cup final, and won the Greek title three times with Olympiakos, and City’s pair of former Barcelona directors believe he would be the right fit for City.

Jose Mourinho is expected to be looking for a new challenge in the summer, but the Real Madrid coach’s toxic relationship with Barcelona makes him an unlikely candidate considering Soriano and Begiristain’s history with the Catalan club.

Mancini has delivered the FA Cup, the Premier League and the Community Shield since replacing Mark Hughes in December 2009, but Begiristain and Soriano, who are also admirers of Feyenoord’s Ronald Koeman, have a history of making shock appointments.

Not only did they promote Guardiola from Barcelona B, they appointed his predecessor Frank Rijkaard after the Dutchman had been sacked by Sparta Rotterdam.

Mancini claims that his job is safe and remains a popular figure among the City faithful, but it is believed Soriano and Begiristain are ready to replace him.

City have crashed out of Europe in the competition’s group stages two years on the bounce, and are likely to hand over their Premier League title to bitter rivals Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s men opening up a 12-point lead at the top with 10 games to play.
