I back him to do it, as it happens. Possibly even this season.

Are they about to implode?

There was a dream there... all singing all dancing full on bells and whistles big bow out on a massive high.
A part of his mind must have been thinking it would be the perfect way to sign off.
Now it's blown. I honestly can't think of another decent reason why he refused to speak to the press after the Real game, well ok there are reasons but usually he cant wait to get stuck into slamming the ref and generally being sanguine about the team, stabilising the immediate situation. He was distraught bcos he was planning the grand finale... and it evaporated in 10 - 20 mins.
It would only be human after all to want that and he knows he is on limited time to claim the CL again.
My take is he is on a mission to get that final CL trophy, I rekon he may well have been thinking for the last 2 or 3 years that he would step down if he got it. I rekon half of him is wanting to retire, he keeps having to dredge up the energy to go through another season.
So losing to Real hit him like a brick wall.
The thing is now that reaction was poor from a management point of view, he sets the tone for the club and the team. I can't think of a worse way to set up the need to shift focus onto holding the lead for the title. He will have effected everyone at the club and it is going to be critical for them in the next two games to pull themselves together.
Chelsea are desperate, Arsenal are desperate.
Interesting times ahead for us.
City have the biggest game of the season so far going to Goodison. We need to be rabid and get the result.
A season changing couple of weeks ahead ?

So was that the reason Moureen was being so pleasant to the rags then ?

He was definitely avoiding upsetting them, wasn't he? Walked off the pitch before the game ended, said they were the best team. Looked very much to me like he was supposed to be in charge next season.
Would be hilarious if Taggart refuses to retire though as he wants another shot at CL - do you sack him or tell Moureen to take a hike, knowing he might not come back?
