gary cook in the $h1T

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Innocent slip of the tongue, accept his apology, move on. I'm sure he's very embarrassed and so he should be but lets not vilify the fella for it for any longer than necessary. If we lose Cook to something so trivial it will set us back years. The bloke has done so much to improve everything about the club off the pitch. It would be a major embarrassment to City if he was hounded out for this and it would show that in fact we haven't got the best fans in all the world.

Got back from the weekend in Manchester earlier this afternoon, went to the dinner on Friday and then the game(?) yesterday.

Unfortunately Cook did say what has been mentioned, there were audible groans and boos but after the event he did a Q&A with the fans and there was one dickhead who had to be dragged away from the top table. I spoke with Cook and he really did appear to be crestfallen, its a shame cos what he had to say was spot on and it does give you a great sense that we are on the right lines as a club (if not on the pitch at times).

As for making a quick exit we were some of the last to leave and Cook was still there chatting to fans. An unfortunate fuck up sadly, but not worth the vitriol that some of the idiots there were spouting.

Had a brief chat with my hero, King Colin and he surprised me as being much bigger than I imagined. Also chatted with Joe Corrigan and he is still fucklin mahusive and a top bloke to boot! I think I've got him to agree to come down to our OSC annual awards dinner!!

Saw it in the paper today and, much as I don't like what Cook and his like bring to football, I just see this as a stupid slip of the tongue. Nowhere near as bad as his idea of getting rid of relegation.

When I saw the headline though, I assumed he'd be apologising over the way Uwe was treated on the pitch - he hadn't even walked off before they were reading out the teams. Surely they could have brought him out 30 seconds earlier, or did they not expect any applause. It would also be nice if they could have interviewed him, maybe before the match and put it on the screens at half time - maybe they could do it at half time this Saturday, whilst Gary Cook crawls round the edge of the pitch wearing a hair shirt

Heard about this at the game and thought..."Poor Cookie"...It was quite obviously a slip up and one he would have immediately regretted and probably have felt really shit about.
I have spent a lifetime fucking up and making stupid mistakes like this...and it's a fair guess that most of his critics have too.

I was there on Friday night. Very unfortunate it was, his comment. Just for the record - Sven did the same at the press conference when Bojinov signed.

We've all made fuck ups and Cook is no different. Just move on and forget about it.

My thoughts exactly mate. It's just not possible that those words come out when you're heart is etched with Manchester CITY.

Until now I 've been pretty supportive of Cook but this changes a lot of things. If he doesn't even know who he works for he can do one.

Yeah but we're fans not employees (no matter how high level an employee he is).

I know I have made this slip up a couple of times when drafting reports and also once at a meeting where I have referred to the wrong firm that I work for (ie. previous rather than current....but, importantly, the biggest rivals). It didn't go down very well with my boss but even he laughed about it afterwards and winds me up about it.

As fans, the identity of City (and its differentiation from United) is deeply ingrained in us.... You have only to see how many times those in the media get it wrong on TV (and we are talking about people who have spent their whole lives in football and not just the last two years).

Honestly, I can kinda see why you're so up in arms but, personally, I couldn't care less. And I really do mean that

But Ant not too long ago he was 'one of us', professing his undying love for the club!

Maybe all these sponsorship deals he's doing will let him keep his job, but then seeing most of them come from AD, maybe he isn't doing them?

yeah i know he did.....and TBH, you only have to look at the number of players who have come to Man City after lifetimes following other teams and been converted by the City Effect (Dickov, Goater, Lomas etc etc) to believe that someone can become "one of us" but at the end of the day (in my eyes at least) it is difficult to accept that anyone who has grown up supporting another team can "become" a true dyed in the wool blue to the same extent as someone who has lived, breathed, been crushed and elated by following City all their lives.

Accordingly, I just don't think he'd ever be as deeply enmeshed with the club and its identity as we all are.....even if he honestly, in his heart, feels that he is.

Doesn't make him a liar, just maybe someone who overestimates how attached he currently is to the club.

Re Sponsorship deals, the intro to organising these deals will likely have come from way above his (and even Khaldoon's heads) but I wouldn't make any mistake in accepting that he is the one who has then been negotiating and concluding the actual agreements (which is where the real hard work lies even if you've had a "warmed up lead" to pursue.)

He's doing a great job IMO, a few cock-ups but hardly Francis Lee level cock-ups

Precisely. All this talk about global branding and world domination and all that actually has been delivered are deals with parties connected to the Sheikh. As far as I can tell, all he brings to the table is a very large gob which all too often seems to have his foot in it.

My father in law is a rag, he hates Cook and is losing the massive respect he had for Leslie, he's always taking the piss out of city for having all this money then putting chumps in charge, he uses the typical city phrase far too much.

The worst thing is often when Cook opens his gob I cant defend the club?

Maybe it's irrational, it probably is, but I really don't like Cook. Haven't since day one. He strikes me as slimy and insincere- he probably goes home and laughs at all us morons who fork out thousands to support City. Pursuing Ronaldinho was madness, the way he handled the aftermath of the Kaká discussions was stupid, the comment about Thaksin and golf wasn't funny either. The 'Richard Dunne doesn't sell jerseys in Malaysia' or whatever it was a few months ago epitomises the guy for me. He doesn't value anything unless there's a commercial pot of gold at the end of it.

I'm not all that surprised about this latest thing. And I don't care how many bridges we build with fucking oil companies, I care about my football team and how it performs.
