Toure - We need to improve

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Toure - We need to improve

Postby Vhero » Wed Nov 04, 2009 5:46 pm

Kolo Toure has called on Manchester City to change their mentality following four consecutive draws.

Mark Hughes' men made an impressive start to the season with five victories from their opening six Premier League games but they have since dropped off the pace at the top pf the table.

Having been held by Aston Villa, Wigan, Fulham and Birmingham, City are now eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea.

Skipper Toure believes it is vital to start turning draws into wins if City are to be considered genuine contenders for a UEFA Champions League place.

"We need to impose ourselves as we have some gifted players in this dressing room," he told the club's official website.

"We can enjoy our football by passing it and controlling games. That's what we need to achieve now. The team needs time but as time goes by we need to improve.

"City is not the team it was before, a lot of things have changed and our mentality has to change as well.

"We cannot be happy with a draw or drawing four games in a row. Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool would never be happy with that, which is why they have been at the top, so neither can we."

Fitness hope

Toure has been sidelined with a heel problem in recent weeks but he is hopeful of recovering for the weekend clash with Burnley.

"The injury is getting better, I feel that I will be fit enough for the game on Saturday," he said.

"I'm always disappointed when I'm injured and I can't help out my team mates, but we have a strong squad here.

"You need that if you want to at the top of this league, because there are some really tough teams out there."

I especially like this bit
"We cannot be happy with a draw or drawing four games in a row. Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool would never be happy with that, which is why they have been at the top, so neither can we."

This is what fans have been saying on here for the last week and they have been slated for it now a player has come out and said the same thing. 4 draws is not good enough you gonna call Toures mentality like the fans?

No we wont slate him for saying this but I don't see him digging at the manager and getting hysterical about it like some fans do. No one is happy with 4 draws on the bounce but some of us tend not to go completely over the top and wont a drastic overhaul of the management and playing staff.

"the team needs time but as time goes by we need to improve".

God even the best teams in the world go through a run a games where they loose and draw and struggle but they bounce back. Im a sure of a postive result on Saturday and happy days on here again....well at least to the next game that we fail to win.

Forgive me mate but your post comes across a little bit hysterical.

I have not seen any posts from posters demanding a complete over haul of the playing staff?

I have seen plenty off posts from a minority of supporters who think we are underachieving with 4 draws on the bounce against shit opposition, and Hughes ultimately takes the flak for his lack of tactics and game plan.

As for Toure, totally agree with him 4 draws against shit sides is not good enough, maybe his winning mentality is down to working with a positive manager for years.

We now have another manager who doesn’t have a fcuking clue,Robinho will soon be gone as will Ireland, whilst some fans salivate at the prospect of replacing world class players for crocks and cloggers, other fans like me are having nightmares at the prospect of the future under this clueless negative RAG cnut and his concept of the beautiful game..

If I was on my pc I would post some more lovely snippets like above from the last few days so no your wrong no hysterea from me mate. Thanks.

I think Toure needs to improve

Right now. He's been missing in games.

Stamp your marker on this defence mate and get it sorted. All defenders are under performing right now. It's not good enough.

Time to gel ? I think three weeks is more than enough what do they do all day ?

Going nowhere this is it mate?

There’s not many fans on this site will stake a wager on Robinho still being at City come February. As for Ireland if he is reduced to a bit part at City I can hardly see him staying, so what exactly is your point ?

you would be better off using your energy elsewhere rather than getting all hysterical with me.

I don’t think it really matters in what context you interpret what he has said, at the end of the day the message is pretty clear regardless, we could and should be doing much better, he has just gone around the houses putting his message across.

Exactly, to me it looks like the media got to some folk.... the media love to put four or five results together and make it look like a mini crisis and some folk fall for it. Fulham were the 7th best team in the country, Villa were the 6th. I can't believe some folk think we have a god given right to beat these teams.

Put it in perspective - We drew away at Wigan because we went down to ten men. We drew at Birmingham and IMO it was the worst we've played all season, so that's the reason for that. We drew at home to Fulham and that is the most disappointing because we were 2 nil up and threw it away. Make no mistake about it - drawing at Villa Park was a damn good result.

There is no crisis happening here and I'm confident we'll see that on Saturday.

But CARL - its only Burnley?

I'm sure the rags said the same thing...

To me these kind of comments ala Robinhos just seem to be a reaction to Hughes apparant ''satisfaction'' after some of these games in the press conference. When were shite, drop points, u get hughes coming out and saying hes delighted and that they'll be ''more days like this as time goes on''. What a daft thing to say!! Hes too conservative and always covering his arse.
