Cristiano Ronaldo will be able to play for Portugal in their opening game at next summer's World Cup finals despite his red card against the Republic of Ireland.

Ronaldo, 40, was sent off for an elbow to Dara O'Shea's back during Portugal's 2-0 qualifying defeat earlier this month.

Violent conduct normally carries a three-match ban but Ronaldo has had the second and third matches suspended for a year.

BBC Sport understands that the fact it was his first red card in 226 international appearances was taken into account.

What the actual fuck?!!!!

Absolute fucking ridiculous. This type of thing is exactly the same as Messi winning his last balon d'or and Giggs winning player if the year having hardly played. It's not about sporting integrity whatsoever. Bet VAR use the same logic too. Wankers the lot of them.

Whoever draws Portugal in the group should appeal the decision and threaten to sue FIFA.

Is anyone remotely surprised though?

Money talks. Always has and without any shadow of doubt, always will

The sponsors will have had a word to FIFA

Any truth in the rumour that FIFA's on-hold music is ABBA's Money, Money, Money?

Now we have started scoring goals from players other than Haaland, I wonder what reason the pundits/media will now come up with why we aren't really in the title race?

Poor defence? We've conceded only 1 more than Villa or Chelsea
8 less than the dippers and 1 less than Newcastle.

And we've outscored everyone by some way by the way

I noticed that. Same GD as the Arse, who are where they are due to their defence.
An injury or two will knock a hole in that.

Our defence could be better, and can be a bit error prone now and then, but I wouldn't call it poor.

Yep for a team with a manager who everyone has worked out and no Plan B, no full backs and a tiny squad we're not doing too bad.

The, we will score more than you mentality is what can give you an advantage. I like Arsenal's defensive resilience and hate to see us concede. However, when it's level on points and level on goal difference at the end of the season, the next item is Goals Scored, not how good is your defence.

Always nice to see the debt and servicing of it climb. Unfortunately, some fucker will still come in and buy them regardless of that unless their lack of success on the pitch continues- which we can all hope continues

The goal, Haaland's 17th of the season in the Premier League, came after the Palace 'keeper had saved his penalty in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May and put the seal on an impressive victory which underlines City's title credentials.

This from the match report by Sky Sports

Haaland didn't even take the penalty you thick fucks

I think it is too late for new buyers.

City's owners paid less than 200 mill and have turned City into a powerhouse worth billions. No decrepid stadium , great squad and infrastructure. Rags in debt to 1 billion dollars and have nothing to sell, except videos of years gone by

IMO , She’s thick as shit and doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near a microphone commenting on the men’s game.

The fact the judge agreed with her and said it was motivated by race, even though Vine and Lucy Ward are white and he gave them the same treatment, was absolutely bizarre and true to what this country is like at the moment.
