The View from the Home End

WHU2

I am looking forward to this one, and I expect the boys to ensure we all have a happy Saturday night. It should be a good game, and I definitely see goals. Lots of decent comments from the home fans this week, andJust for this week I have split up the comments into pre and post CL game.

Now …..COME ON CITY !!!

Team Selection

                             Adrian
Jenkinson–Reid–Tomkins–Cresswell
                            Kouyate
                  Noble                Song
                            Downing
  Sakho                                           Valencia

My Favourite

Both teams can’t defend, but can score….8-7, not sure which way yet

And the rest – Comments pre CL

You know, I think we’re going to o these and close the gap to them to a solitary point

Im hoping Man City have a tough time midweek in CL and we have a chance to at least show we can make a bloody good game of it

I’d be well happy with a draw

If we win this, teams will start to sit up and take notice of us

We have a chance. City have to play their best team in Russia. If that’s by and large the side that they choose for our game I hope but also suspect that we’ll tear into them from the off like we did against Liverpool days after their CL game.

We should be full of confidence with our current form. If they come and outclass us, because they do have better players, then I’ll accept that. But if we play like we have been, we will certainly give them a good game. I can see Sakho and Valencia causing them problems, just need Song and Noble to match up with Yaya and Silva, which is a tough ask. I think there’s only Man City and Chelsea as the teams where we shouldn’t be expecting anything, but if we are in the mood, we can give anyone a game. I think we had Spurs and Man Utd on the ropes, and we beat Liverpool. So who else does that leave? Arsenal and maybe Everton, and we’ve already played and lost to Southampton. We shouldn’t fear anyone else, but I know every Premiership game is tough and anything can happen.

Next Saturday will be a real test and an indication of how far we’ve come and if we can expect to compete at this end of the table.

Not saying we’ll win or even draw, just want to see us be competitive and show that we belong, unlike our performances against City last season. We do have something special going on at the moment, so let’s enjoy the ride.

If we want to have a chance, we must revert back to last season’s style a bit more. Too expansive and we’ll just get mullered because we are letting a lot of goals in and we can’t be doing that against Man City.

Back to earth with a bang 2-6

It is fixtures such as this that are the true yardstick of our progress this season and I think this one has come at the right time for us. We don’t have to fear them and I think we can, with a measure of luck and good fortune, take all 3 points. Defensively, they are not all that great, but in Aguerro, they have a lethal striker of their own who is very difficult to mark, so somebody at the back has to stick to him like glue

reckon we’ve got a decent chance to compete in this game, and more than any other game this season I want to beat this lot .Sure, they’re packed with top drawer players, but we’re not a pub team either .I’d attack them straight down the middle .Downing at the top of the diamond, dribbling it past Yaya.
What are the turning circles of Yaya, Demechellis and Kompany like ? All out attack from the first minute

Downing has been denied too long. I see him getting a goal and Sakho too. Hard earned 2-2 draw

They are in Moscow during the week, then get a Saturday lunchtime kick off, Mourinho did the fixtures this week.
We can get something from this game, 2-2 for me.

Man City haven’t had any real CL hangovers this season so far (1 all home to Chelsea, beat Villa 2-0 away), but the trip to Moscow is one of the longer jaunts.

Will be interesting to see how Sam sets us up for the game. I think he’ll stick with the diamond to start, possibly with Amalfitano at the tip and Downing deeper, so the latter can use his long-range passing to pick out Cresswell’s charges up the wing. If we’re getting a battering then I can see us going to 4-2-3-1, with Valencia pulled back to the wing, and Noble alongside Song. Would be great if Kouyaté makes the bench.

Head says they still have too much quality for us, but heart says 1 all draw with Collins getting an injury time equaliser.

Thank **** Kouyate is back for this one

despite the optimism I currently feel…………….we will get ironed out in this fixture. the difference this year is that we will at least give them a game

Citeh will win but at least we’ll make a match of it, unlike last season’s 4 depressing offerings. 2-1 to Citeh but still reasons to be cheerful

Man City are currently the best side in the Country & seem to be hitting form, which is sh*t for us. City create tons of chances vs everyone, so we need to be able to outscore them on Saturday. I can see them scoring at least two goals vs West Ham. We need to at least score three on Saturday, to have any chance of winning the game. I cannot ever see a side keeping City out for 90 minutes, so 1-0 is not going to happen. Its going to be our toughest game at home all season. I just hope we can give them a real fright & play well.

See us losing this by the odd goal; sadly I don’t think Adrian has a clean sheet in him against anyone, let alone Citeh. It’s all about the performance, though. Take them to the wire and threaten them and I won’t be too disappointed. Sit back and aim for damage limitation from the first minute and I’ll be spitting blo

I don’t expect us to win this but I do expect us to go into it like we did the Manure game. As long as we take the game to them and don’t show them too much respect! A point will be amazing. A win would knock my socks off!!!

why are people saying they are the best team in the league? aren’t they currently 5 points behind Chelsea?

Minus 8 in Moscow tomorrow and freezing rain/snow forecast, what a shame

If Stoke can do it………………..

4-4 with Aguero rescuing a point for them with the last kick of the match..

Given how we are defending this season, I can’t see us winning this one, Man City are the only side in the division I don’t think we can outscore unfortunately

15 – 0. Dead cert…Bet your house on it.

WTF? you are in cloud cuckoo land mate………………25 -0 at least

Very hard to change a winning team – hoping the gaffer has the guts to stick to do the same for this match . . . worth a gamble and really, against this mob, we’ve nothing to lose

Comments Post CL Game

ts a proven fact that sports teams perform poorly if they have travelled during the week. I am not just talking about results but aerobic output etc etc In any sport not just football. The affect air travel has on the human body is quite a big one. A look at europa league and champs league teams results following an away trip midweek prove this.

The only thing I predict with some confidence is that we’ll score

Citeh now struggling to qualify for CL knockout stage. Only got a point in Moscow. They will be on a low after that.

This could turn out interesting after that disappointing result, they are still limping through this euro competition. An early kick off away from home, feeling a bit jaded and not entirely happy, we need to hit them hard early on like we did Liverpool. Having spent 3 days travelling and limited time for preparation might give us a glimmer of hope !

there may never be a better time to play the current league champions , will still be a very tough ask , 5 mins of magic from yaya and/or aguero/silva and the games gone , still think we’ll get 2 goals though

I really want to beat this lot .Desperate to do so. Anything, in off of Nolans arse in the 92nd minute, Carlton tripping over and kocking it in off his head, a 40 yard screamer from Valencia , a Noble penalty ……..anything at all

0-0 Written all over it

If Kouyate is fit I reckon we can take these feckers

City and Chelsea are a class above the rest this year. If we can nick the odd point off these 2 this season we would be doing very well. Then we need the pair of them to absolutely ruin anyone in their paths (especially the other title contenders) making it a 2 horse race by a mile and enabling us to quietly go about picking up points and finishing in a high position.

We must defend better from the front. Our most forward quartet were very quiet on Saturday first half allowing Burnley to mount lots of attacks.Cant do that against City. Have to allow the defense to have a breather/re-group

Alladicci has a plan for this. The blue mancs won’t know what hit ’em

I have to say it is nice to be looking forward to a game when we will see one of the most prolific goal scorers in the league step out at the Boleyn Ground, this Saturday we get that, Diafra Sakho!

They showed yesterday that they’re prone to conceding goals. We’ll need to play better than we have this season to win but it’s doable, they’re beatable.

If we get at ’em early then I think we’ll get a result. Should we sit and watch them play then were fuct. Same attitude like against Liverpool.

We will lose IMO, but please entertain and make ourselves proud, go for it and come out with our heads held high. There are many people saying that this should be a good measure of how far we’ve come.I think it couldn’t be further from the truth.Man City – at will – can spank just about anyone 5 or 6 nil, whether we’ve vastly improved or not.The real barometer is the performances and results compared to the corresponding fixtures last season, of which we have a thread for.
