That lineup saw us concede glaring chances that PSG fucked up. We rode our luck big time.

For me it should be the same system we used against Kiev away and against Liverpool at Wembley, with Fernandinho on the right tucking back in to make up the numbers in midfield. That was the most balanced we've looked all season.

Agreed.

True. that was a solid lineup. think Manuel will do it? he loves Navas.

Unfortunately not.

Still hard for me to comprehend that we're now competing at this level considering where we were not so long ago. Good shout to get into CL semi final, surreal.

This is the biggest European night of the modern era.

I know most of us don't really like the Champions League but if we're not all up for this, we shouldn't bother being up for anything.

Win this and we could play an easier tie in the semi's (Wolfsburg) then we're into the final and as we saw with Chelsea, anything can happen.

Yeah, and we've looked our most unbalanced with teh same line up so I don't see your point. We also give away chances and get away with shocking misses when Yaya is playing so don't understand your reasoning there either. Considering the line up without Yaya works as well as it does despite not being tested very often is impressive I think.

The only reason for Yaya playing tonight should be that on his good days, he gives us something in attack that noone of our other central midfielders does in attack. And that's the reason why he'll likely play.

When did we use the same lineup and look unbalanced?

I'm not getting the second bit at all mate, I believe we got away with it in Paris so am not really comfortable going with the same lineup again.

When Fern 1&2 play we are asking out less gifted players to fashion opportunities with less to aim at.
The first thing that happens is we look less like scoring.
The other problem is we retain the ball less and often look short of ideas.
If they made us more secure and you could honestly say "none shall pass" when they're in the team then fair enough. But they simply don't.
So if they play together it releases Fernandinho to play further forward? Why is that so great?
1 Fernandinho is a better defensive midfielder than Fernando. 2) Yaya is better going forward than Fern 1. In effect it's weakening us in two positions.
Yaya can still dictate a game and he still has a moment of sublime skill in his locker to turn things in our favour.
Sadly I think it's a knocking bet both Ferns will play, I desperately hope not. If we do concede we'll need the players on the park who can score, rather than us looking short of ideas and desperately hoping Serg saves us.
That moment in Paris is Fernando all over. He always has a mistake in him and I see him as a liability. In truth he is not much of a footballer.

We are getting to hung up on tactics.
Our biggest problem this season has been attitude.
It was good in Paris and that is primarily why we got a 2-2.

Regardless of what formation we play we always give up chances.
In Paris PSG were nearly as open at the back as we were.

I expect our attitude will be spot on tonight and that both teams will give up chances.
Joe will do what he always does - make about 3 great saves.
YaYa, Brown and Kun to swing it our way. All three of them are game changers.

blues2win wrote:Anyone who thinks the two Fernsdont make us more solid should reflect on how they'd feel if Pellegrini names Toure and Fernandinho in central midfield. Hopefully he won't. If Toure plays which I think he will then Navas will make way. In that case Sagna and Clichy will have to be on their toes because I don't think they'll get much help from de Bruyne and Silva tracking back. Having both the Ferns really helps here. If Fernando plays it also means that Fernandinho has more freedom to go forward where he can really be effective. He scored the second goal in Paris because he was far enough forward to have the opportunity. I don't suppose we'll be that solid with Mangala and Otamendi but we'll be more solid if Fernando plays that's for sure.

I think Yaya will play alongside Fernandihno in the two in front of the defence (though how much he will sit alongside Fern 1 remains to be seen) the 3 advanced midfielders I think will be Navas, KDB and Silva.

If PSG go through we'll never hear the end of it from Toure's agent. Yaya available to come on as sub though. This is going to be a long heart stopping couple of hours which could clearly go either way. Fingers crossed. What a huge night in the Club's history!

On a personal note ,Im glad YAYA whinging whining cunt isnt playing from the off.....shows that cunt and his wanker of an agent that hes not the be all and end all.
Every player needs to be able to defend today at some point and YAYA isnt fuckign one of them that can or will.

I dont think we should bring him on at all seeing as hes not playing from the off , as he will 100% be in sulk mode.
