'The new Duncan Edwards' - Phil Jones, apparently. Lol.

Here's one for you. Denayer reminds me of Gullit. Just such a natural footballer. Incredible poise and technique.

He's a cool looking fucker too - has the aura of someone who's just gonna be a star.

The way he plays, is the way we were hoping Paul Lake would turn out. Lakey was better in the air & stronger, but Denayer is quicker & better on the ground in that position imo, defensively too.

He might have kept Mancini in a job if he'd bene around a few years ago. He's got 'back 3' written all over him. Pep will fucking love him (if he comes).

Too young to know Lake sadly. I was about 5 when he got injured.

All I know is that Denayer is class. Surely all of Txiki, Soriano and Pellers can see that too. If he can't get into City's squad next year I don't know what more a kid would have to do.

He has to play in some position imo. Not necessarily every game of course, but regularly.

They should write the team: Hart, Aguero, Denayer, then decide which other 8 go in; whether he's fullback, cb, or cdm.

Essential he's signed up to a long term contract with a promise to push up his wages appropriately if he develops as expected. Rafael Hernandez the great Barca fan praising him tonight. Hands off mate.

It shouldn't be whether he is in the squad but in the team! The pre season games may well decide who starts in the prem next season but it will surely be Vinnie, Mangala and Denayer fighting for the 2 spots unless we go to the scary back 3!

And yes I know Vinnie has had a poor year but he will be back I am sure. Yes also Demichelis was arguably our most reliable last season but his time has gone and we have a great fall back 4th center back. Tosin to be fighting for a spot in a year or so maybe as well.

didn't get to see the game unfortunately ... hopefully we'll be able to find a 'denayer vs. france' youtube comp or something similar.

Reading lots of praise about him on match threads, etc ... very excited to have a genuine talented youth product come out. This summer will be hell waiting for the new season to start, very excited.

That's wonderful news, thanks for the updates everyone. If not for you guys, wouldnt have know about the kind of debut he had.

With Kompany, Mangala and Denayer we have centerback's set for the next couple of years. By the time we need a replacement someone will definitely come through the academy again. Good times !!

Cue: Yeah, but he's not British/English/Northern/Mancunian. Why can't City produce their own players. You stole him from Anderlecht. He's not really a youth player as City bought him. Ruining football by buying the future etc. etc. etc.

In Argentina's 2014 World Cup side, Mascherano was their defensive midfielder.

However, he played so deep that, at times and especially if the full-backs had pushed upfield, he often was to be found in between the two centre-backs and, sometimes, even behind them as a 'de facto' sweeper.

In this way, Argentina could be said to be almost playing a (fluid) back three so it doesn't always have to be necessarily bad or "scary". On that basis and given possible concerns about his aerial abilities (hopefully unfounded), I wonder if Denayer might be suitable for providing this sort of Mascherano, deep-lying role for City ??

I just hope Denayer doesnt get to play alongside Kompany.....ever....that will fuck his game up,
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

I am not referring to any particular poster on here but i cant get the Kompany hate sprayed around by many. Yes he has had a poor season, but some of the vitriol about him is way over the top, some lads have gold fish memories.

Kompany is the best cb in the world, having a bad spell imo & could sign for any team he wanted if we let him go. His injury problems are my worry, not his form.

Denayer tends to play in the same position though.

No chance is the best in the world Ted. all CB'S on Saturday were superior. Vinny is a booking waiting to happen, As much as I love him, I have never seen him have a decent CL game. Top player great leader and love him BTW. A season of shite has to be a record.
