I seem to recall at Barca Pep would only commit to one years contract at a time. Bayern seem to be in the same boat as Barca were with Pep.
The best managers can call the shots?

But surely that was because he was planning on leaving but didn't quite know when, & he was g.o.d. at Barca ? Do Bayern really need him ?

He's a Catalan though and so I think Barca saw him as one of their very own. He's not that in Bavaria.

I think it was because he found the intensity and pressure at Barca so draining. Apparently that's why he needed to take a year off to recover and recharge.
I agree he is less idolised at Bayern, but would they really sack one of the best managers in world football?

Not overly sure about pep. He had some of the greatest players on the planet at barca. That bayern team won the cl and last season and this one the great pep hasn't got them back to the final.

You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

If we do, there's a decent chance he'll be coming up against Guardiola in the Premier League in a year or two. I think he will get his arse handed to him. Well I think Mourinho will hand it to him anyway tbh.

You believe pep and mourinho to be far superior to ancelotti, fair enough, but pep the football genius did it at barca with some of the best players on the planet at his disposal. I am just not overly convinced that if he came to city he would be as successful...
mourinho is a completely different matter.

Mourinho would be successful at City, but you'd just hate the club to ever be associated with his likes.

Being able to handle the best players on the planet is easily as important as being a footballing genius. Mancini couldn't do it, Leslie couldn't do it. Pellers seems to be struggling to keep Yaya in line. You think Mourinho would put up with that shit about cake and handshakes?

If Ancelotti was in his 2nd year at Chelsea, I think the title race would still be on & we would have taken 3 4 or 6 points off them. Then also if Guardiola was in his 2nd year at either rags or Arsenal, I think they would have won it a month ago.

So, we need a top manager to come to be seen as a top club?

No we are a top club. But if we want to get a better percentage of the top players to sign for us, as opposed to Real, Barca, rags etc without being able to blow everyone out of the water with transfer fees, then a big name manager would be a big help.

Could Paddy do that?

With some players maybe. Some may be impressed by his stature as a player & jump on board but it would be short lived if he turned out to be a French Stuart Pearce. If however he was to be fairly successful in his first season & looked like he was really putting something together, then they would all be interested imo. If someone like Pep had already got things cooking prior to that though, it would be a piece of piss for Vieira to attract players.

I take your point, but those lads at Barca were practically his team mates. At city it would be a completely different situation.
He took a ready made Bayern side that won a treble and has failed to get them to the champions league final in two attempts, which for Bayern is not seen as progress. Yes successful domestically but anyone could do that with Bayern in that league. Still not so sure he is the great saviour he is brandered as being, maybe so, maybe not.

whatever the criticism about Pep might be, and there are very few, the fucker does have a very very sharp haircut at the end of the day. What a beautiful man.
cheers

They got rid of a brilliant manager before Pep. (Can't remember his name) but i do remember his Bayern team totally destroying Barca in UCL
