Nasri has stepped up when Silva has been out & just because the team has been geared towards Yaya playing in it, doesn't mean it couldn't have been just as effective redesigned. The best we have ever played in Europe, was Roma away. Nasri scored a cracker & the midfield was the most soild it has ever looked in that competition.

Roma away was a GREAT result but up until the point when we scored ( a superb strike from Nasri granted) we had looked toothless.

I agree. We've played better in Europe than Roma away. I'd say we played better against Hamburg at home than that.

Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes,
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change,
into something rich and strange,
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell,
Ding-dong.
Hark! now I hear them, ding-dong, bell."

I'd sell them all and get younger players i'd be happy with another no trophy season if we are rebuilding the squad with a talented younger base that will set us up for another 5-6 year tilt.

I felt it at the time and nothing has changed my mind since. .. Roma away was the best "European" performance.

It was the night I felt we had finally found out how to take on teams in Europe and when it really counted.

Granted Barca followed but they would have done that and far worse to most other top clubs.

Roma away was definitely the best performance, as it was a head to head between the two teams.

But the only reason I mentioned it, was as an example that it's not necessarily true that Silva & Yaya are always at the heart of our best performances & maybe Milner, Nasri could have been effective too if played often enough.

So people reply with a game v Bayern where Milner & Javi Garcia played & Yaya didn't, & one v Hamburg where none of them played.

Yaya played in none of them.

If we were to do a swap deal: Barkley for Edin. Would you be up for that? I think Edin would be great for them. Do you think he'd go? Would we have to give them some cash as well to cover his wages.

Thoughts?

They couldn't afford his wages & he would get miles better offers elsewhere.

Agreed. He'll be at Wolfsburg or Juve next season I think.

Wolfsburg linked this morning.

If we are after DeBruyne, then it would make sense. I still feel Dzeko's most likely club for next season is City though.

Tbh, I thought DeBruyne was total shit for Chelsea, but watching him in recent times, I can see where we are coming from. He is a relentless delivery machine & dangerous even on a bad day.

Imo, some of the stuff he does his not that dissimilar to Navas, whacking balls in, & he's not fit to lace Navas' boots without the ball, but he also does that Beckham type thing where he hits one or two, which are absolutely deadly & you know it's coming, but can't stop it. He is a huge variation on what we have.

Dzeko, imo, would be one of the people you would expect to benefit from it though.

I haven't seen him much in Germany tbh, but every time I watch him for Belgium he seems to bottle it. And his work rate is always below par.

Not impressed with his workrate at all but I have seen him put a shift in. But even the other night, when his radar was well off for Belgium, he still caused more trouble than Hazard did.

In his last Euro game for Wolfsburg at Inter, his first half was exceptional. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone put more dangerous passes in tbh, from both sides, & he was a constant menace running at pace. He actually played 2nd striker then. Second half he was loafing around like Rodney Marsh after a night out with George Best.

Strange player. But I can see a kind of more direct alternative to Silva in there. I think I understand why we are after him & he would vastly change our range of options. But Dzeko & Bony would both love his passes I think.

DeBruyne seems like someone we might actually wind up signing.

I wish we could get Sterling, but that seems exactly like I put it...wishful thinking.

Yeah I want Sterling too.

Or someone else who is going to run hard at defenders and force them to make a decision. Sterling is 20 years old and can still improve a LOT.
But if we had him from the summer on, we could end up with a superstar IMO.

Not the same player bombed out of Chelsea by the Special 1. Very clever and sees a pass, similar to Reus.
