Lets have 1 x Def MF and play a 4-1-4-1 formation. Its every player duty to defend if they are on the pitch but give that particular person the special role of patrolling in front of the back line and only cross the 1/2 way line if he has too. this job should not be given to YAYA either, its either one of the Fern's.
Hart
Zaba - Kompany - Mangala - Kolarov
Fernando
(Navas) Milner - Toure - Silva - Jovetic(Nasri)
Aguero
Agree with this.
I don't like the two upfront one bit.

I don't recall fat sam finding it too easy against us last season.
In fact, we are champions so I don't think anyone finds us easy to play against.
The fat cunt appears to be giving a rallying call for the rest of the league to rise to our challenge.

I've no problem with two strikers, but it requires a few things we are not seeing.
Pressing. West Ham did it, we didn't. Can't have two bodies up top and neither shutting down. Tevez would have worked a treat in this system.
Midfielders to either press or take turns holding. Yes I know Fernando does it, but if we commit 2 strikers, 3 mids and a fb or 2 and don't make anything of it, the sucker punch tends to be waiting to happen.
Or lastly play Fernando as we thought he would in a mid 3 with fern and yaya and that way we have protection. Or sad as it makes ne to say it stop letting the fullbacks go forward so much.
Can't do none of the above, not be ruthless and win games
Agree with pretty much all of that and I would only like to comment on the striker's role.
Dzeko especially but Agüero as well have been playing poorly in that department in the last two games at least. We need them to do a defensive job, otherwise the team's shape falls to pieces. When Dzeko was subbed last game the entire shape of our team shape returned almost immediately. I don't think it has anything to do with the numbers, I.E. if we went from 442 to a 451, but because Jovetic did what he was supposed to in whatever formation we actually ended up playing.

I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

Thank goodness for that.
Fat Sam has been quoted a few times on this forum, after Saturday's game, as though he was some sort of new-age footballing visionary and, quite frankly, it's becoming tedious.
If he was such a managerial colossus and tactical visionary, we'd surely have got him, instead of Pellegrini, to replace Roberto.
He's just wanting his five minutes in the sun.
I agree, most of his quotes are absurd, he nullified Chelsea like one season ago and was damn proud of that, despite Mourinho being all adaptive and stuff.
However, he's right about Mangala. We are fuckign abuot with him. Ease him in or protect him better so we don't have to start over again.

He's a disrespectful fat cunt for some of the shite he is spouting.
He most certainly was not right to speak about targeting a particular player and naming that player. Did Pellegrini do that after we mauled them several times last season?
Did he fuck. It's completely disrespectful and sends out a message to the rest of the league that a new player is a weak link.
Just when I thought he was becoming less of a cunt he says we are an easy team to beat and that Mangala should be targeted.
I hope he loses his job again.

I don't have a particular strong view on whether it's right or not of him to speak about a particular player. But let's just say that he has no right to say the things he says, it's not the same thing as saying he's right in his opinion, which was what I said.
Mangala is probably going to have a tough time settling in in our defense if we keep chopping and changing it, if we have a left back that leaves him out to dry and if we have a team where about half of the team can't be arsed with defending and keeping shape.

It was a pretty shocking partnership for a good four months too. Demichelis had no place in the side for half a season, some truly shocking performances until he fully settled. Give Mangala the same period of settling in and we will reap the rewards. It might as well be this season that we bed him into the side as the title race is as good as over.

From what I can see it's our weakness for conceding goals that is the bigger problem. That could be more down to a rotation of the back four, which leads to hesitation. Chelsea have played Cahill and Terry every league game so far and it shows. I would stick to a stable defence for a while, and potentially add Milner. He seems to be finding an eye for a pass and we are definitely more solid with him. Even if we lose a bit of flair, we would still be winning 1-0. We have had 1 (?) clean sheet all season.

The title race is as good as over? At the same stage last season we had a point less and were in 7th place. How did that end up?

for me, thats irrelevant. last season the "leaders" were Arsenal (managed by The Master of Failure) and Liverpool (very wet behind the ears). it was "easy" to overtake them and Chelsea wasn't as much of a threat given their possession of Etoressba.
Now, however, Chelsea has Costa and Fabregas. Liverpool is shit and Arsenal is shit. Catching up with a 2nd year Mourinho year is not at all comparable to overcoming those 2 wank squads last season

Why is being pessimistic being a shit fan? Do you have to be a deluded idiot to be a good fan now? I'll call things how I see them, not arsed whether that satisfies your criteria of a good fan. I don't think Chelsea will be caught now, I didn't think we'd catch United in 12/13 either, apologies for being pessimistic back then too.

you clearly didn't read my post.
i was commenting on Socrates' post and mentioning that we can't use last season as an example.
there comes a point when you fall so far behind you don't catch up because your competition is too good and too far ahead.
nowhere did i say that has happened yet.
please try reading.

Be interesting to see which version of Nasri turns up once fit.
He wasn't in great form previously, but if he was not 100% it could be there is more to come. When he was on top form last season, before that cunt kicked him out of the game, he was our best player. That version of Nasri ticks a lot of the boxes to make the Count's system work, either as attacking mid or as 2nd striker.
The other version of Nasri, makes things worse.
