Deffo not Giovinco as this was a pretty young kid, but I suppose it could possibly be Insigne & he's just not reached the level I expected.

Insigne looked phenomenal at the U21 WC when Tello, Thiago, Illaramendi, & Herrera starred for Spain and then Napoli kept him and he's been so-so.

Arsenal are supposedly in for him but have been quoted something like 40m.

Jesus.

Now I'm starting to remember the tournament, of course Isco was a star. And it also reminds me that Muniain is still only a kid & another who has had a quieter spell than expected. Illaramendi would probably have improved Spain v Holland.

I can see the reasoning behind that but imo, Sterling played like a 12 year old on amphetamines in the last game. I accept I could be totally wrong & he could be a matchwinner, but I wouldn't start him for that reason.

Hart; Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines; Gerrard, Henderson; Rooney, Sterling, Welbeck; Sturridge.

As per twitter.

So no Lallana then.
With Welbeck, Sturridge and Strerling it's clear we're gonna try and hit them on the break with pace.

In the heat, I fear Sterling may only last 30 minutes before he's panting like a rabid dog. Pace is often better late on, so I'm not sure I'd play him, but we'll see.

That's surprising. How did Hodgson manage to keep 4 Rag/Dippers out!!!

Italy have ageing skilful players and may be vulnerable on the break. Our defence looks vulnerable though at Right back and centre back.

I do think we can beat Italy tonight and with another result we're there. Costa Rica and Uruguay didn't look convincing but that's near always the case in the early stages.

I'm just gonna try and enjoy the games and not get to eat-up if it goes a little Pete. Unless it's Wiggy or Stevie Starfish of course, that'll be a complete different matter.

No England match for you tonight, then.

To be fair, he was the best of a bad bunch the last time England played - which is a sad indictment.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the match. After all the talk and hype, I'm interested to see how this one goes.
