On one hand Hughes was seeming more and more like the proverbial D.M.W., defensively and tactically naive but he´d achieved what most of us were asking for with , lets not forget, some scintillating football. I believed the owners were honourable people with a long term picture and for that reason I expected Les to get till new year , as with another 2 wins we´d be very close to top 4, yet on the other hand the owners have backed him to the hilt and he WASN´T their appointment. I´d heard so much about "team building for a long term legacy" and now I see the possibility within 12 months of Mancini being shown the door and we fall into the same old downward spiral . Would Hughes have done worse or better in the same 12 months? We´ll never know , but I fear that forums like this , where lets face it , many of us don´t actually go to games (regularly anyway) and some of the panic about Platini´s hare - brained plans have forced their hand to an extent. A part of me will always think "what if Hughes had stayed around 5 or even 10 years?" , " would we have created a Baconface type hegemony?" , coz lets face it, it was blue from Chaddy called Mark Robbins that saved Ferguscums arse after 3 and a half years of abject failure.

Time waits for no man and none of us can change the course of what is now history so Mancini will get my full support and I hope unanimous backing from the City faithful as we sweep all before us, but you can´t help feeling it won´t be long before we´re having this debate again - that´s football these days - you can´t stop the bus and demand to get off - old Corinthian values are long gone and "success now!" is king whether you like it or not. Perhaps most of us on here would take a couple of quick trophies and then return to the circus we´ve been used to for so long.
"The king is dead, long live ... ... who is it this time...?"

No one knows whether he's the man, so the only honest vote anyone can give is option 3!

I want success of course, I just hope we don't become a defensive team. I fucking hate cagey, negative football. It bugs the bollox out of me!

Obviously I don't always want 4-3 results, but entertainment is the priority IMO.

Please please please Roberto, try to play the game in the right way!!

My priority too but built on a solid foundation. That's why an attack minded Italian excites me so much...

To be honest....it's hard to see the playing resources we have being sent out to play a cagey, negative game....our players don't just "not suit" that kind of game but I would actually say that they are positively incapable of doing so.

Everyone can see that all we need to do is get 4 defenders and a goalkeeper to play together like a competent, cohesive unit and....in my opinion....we shall be flying.

We can create chances AND score against ANY opposition. We showed that last season in the Prem, in the UEFA and have emphatically shown it this season.

We don't know how he'll do I guess but I think the appointment of Kidd as his number 2 is potentially a very very good move

None of us has any idea really. But, I would imagine that if he doesn't get us into the top 4 - or at least playing as though we could - then he'll be off and we'll get another ex-Inter manager.

Yeah, Kidd was a quality appointment.

Socs - you say he's an "attack-minded" manager? Well that's just fine with me - to be honest I only saw a handful of Inter games when he was in charge and most of them were in Europe so I don't think I'm in a very good position to speak on the quality of football he should bring.

Someone else said the Inter fans weren't bothered when he left because his football was boring and that scared me TBH!

So can we clarify he is DEFINITELY an attack minded manager - maybe goals scored for teams he managed?

2 goals a game with Inter, against Italian defences that's not too shabby.

Brian Kidd? WTF?

Is he a choice made by Mancini, or are these Middle Eastern moguls deliberately trying to wind you lot up?

Who next on the COMS gravy train? Captain Marvel the Sports Psychologist?

Brian Kidd was a very good and popular player with us in the late 70's. A fact not so well known is that he also worked at Platt lane, our former training ground. This was after his playing days but before his coaching career took off. I assume it was beginning of the 90's.

No, it's certainly not.

I'd like to see how Inter teams before him faired in the goals scored... and compared to Jose's more importantly, because essentially, Jose is not the most attack minded and they've had a very similar squad and circumstance in the league...

he was a fantastic player

supposed to be someone who is well respected by players (I heard earlier that he effectively worked as Svennis' assistant coach when he was at Sampdoria and then Lazio). He was the player who Sven insisted be signed for Lazio when he joined them as manager.

In terms of the positive development of Manchester City Football Club, it's pretty cool that our new manager most recently managed a multiple title winning Inter Milan side. We have come a long long way in an amazingly short time. I imagine that Sven was consulted prior to him accepting this role and I'd like to think that Sven sold us, the fans, as one of the main draws for working for City. Maybe finally a decent lasting legacy provided by Mr Eriksson ;-)

I'm looking forward to us ALL enjoying the ride together from here on in

They worked very close togehter, Mancini and Svennis. Svennis was more or less like a mentor to him.

I would first like to say that I wish Mark Hughes & his team the best of luck for the future. I'm sorry to see him leave. I think he did a sterling job & I'm absolutely disgusted with the board & the way they handled the recent events (I honestly thought those days had gone). To me if it's not broke, don't fix it.

Do I think Mancini is the man for the job?......... No I don't. I actually think the man for the job was Sven Goran Eriksson but that's a seperate argument. I was fully commited to Mark Hughes & his team & having met them & spoke to them on a number of occasions while stood next to the Infamous Doug (Roy) at training I felt we were well on the way to getting some success (which I believe we still are looking at our league position & given the fact we're in our first major cuo semi final since 1981).

This is another sad weekend in our history.

I do however have a question........ If Mr Mancini doesn't get us into the top four or wins a trophy by the end of the season, will he be shown the door too?

Personnally, I think we're another season away from finishing in the top 4 anyway & I thought that at the start of the season. Now we've got to start all over again.

You CANNOT get instant success nomatter how hard you try.

Yet again we are a laughing stock of the football world.

CHELSEA , REAL MADRID , BARCELONA AND PROBABLY A SHED LOAD MORE HIGH PROFILE CLUBS HAVE SACKED MANAGER AFTER MANAGER FOR NOT GETTING THE TEAM TO WHERE THE OWNERS WANTED...........AND THOSE TEAMS ARE STILL SUCCESFUL IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

THE WAY OUR DEFENSE WAS PLAYING WE WERE THE LAUGHING STOCK ALREADY AND THERE WAS NO SIGN OF THAT IMPROVING......IF YOU CANT SEE THAT THEN GET TO SPEC SAVORS !!!!

WE ARE A DIFFERENT CITY NOW MATE...THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BECOME THE RICHEST CLUB IN THE WORLD OVERNIGHT.....THINGS CHANGE AND SO DOES THE TARGETS THAT WERE ORGINALLY SET OUT BEFORE THE SEASON BEGAN.

A BUDGET IS REVISED EACH QUARTER....WE SET OUT TO GET INTO THE TOP 6 BY THE SEASONS END BUT SEEING HOW THE PREMIERSHIPS ELITE WERE DROPPING POINTS LEFT RIGHT AND CENTRE WE CHANGED OUR BUDGET ACCORDINGLY.

THATS LIFE AND IT HAPPENS IN EVERY COMPANY.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

Christ I'm so hungover celebrating Hughes' sacking.
