It's a bit of a mix for me.
I've not been impressed with the Hughes regime since it began, however I was coming around to the idea that we were improving as a team - sort out the defence and we'd be top four this season.
However, the money has been spent, and rather a lot of it on defenders, yet we're still no better in this area. It reminds me a bit of the Keegan era - we have to score 4 every game (hugely entertaining) because we-re likely to concede 3 every game (hugely frustrating). Fail to score and we'll lose because we can't keep a clean sheet.

With Mancini, I hope we'll see things tighten up. We'll score goals, that's a given. The talent out there is superb. Concede half as many and we'll be in the Champions League next year, for sure.

What was this target? Top six? Top four? The title? A trophy?

And that's what I'm getting at. Why haven't these targets been made known?

For example, if one of these targets was to be top 4 by Christmas then Hughes has failed, but was that a realistic expectation in the first place?

The point is we don't know, and our position right now isn't exactly bad.

Looking at this in the cold light of day, the club have done everything right. They had obviously given Hughes a target which they felt he couldn't meet. Hughes new that he had to do something and that's why he went for a very attcking formation at Spurs, which didn't save his bacon. He went into yesterdays match knowing that his time was up, and also knowing that a manager had been earmarked for the job.

The club had sounded Mancini out a while ago and were waiting to see if Hughes could turn it around before going firm with an offer. They ensured that people were in place to minimise the risk for the forthcoming games and to make the transition seemless. They then asked the team Captain and another respected member of the squad to tell the rest of the team, unorthodox but effective.

And, like Ant mentioned, it happened quickly, no drawn out saga that can affect the whole club. Mark Hughes term is now over and it is now time to get on the Mancini Roller Coaster. Let's just hope that he can sort out our defensive problems until January, and with a couple of decent signings, we can storm the league.

Let's face it, many managers in the league, especially the top clubs, were happy with Mark Hughes in charge, knowing that they could score goals whenever they wanted. They just couldn't control our front line!
