not England related but I see Nasri was dropped from French squad. tbh I'm happy that he doesn't have an additional pointless midweek game during the internationals. And he has plenty of time to prove his worth to Deschamps before WC

The fewer City players playing in internationals the better!

Nasri wants to thank his lucky stars that he is French and managed to get some caps. He wouldn't get a sniff in the England setup, I mean as if Nasri is better than Young.................or Welbeck!!!!

+1. 100% you can add some of the Arsenal and dipper players to that

Go on then lads, England 11 picked by you.

Hart
Walker--Terry--Cahill--Baines
Sterling--Gerrard--Barkley--Johnson
Rooney--Sturridge

?

Surely there is better than that.

Walcott, Shaw, Jagielka, Ox, Barry?

I'd honestly have no idea how to put this team together.

Woy's probable master plan and the only 'hope' England have got in the World Cup is for him to pick a totally defensive side which might just be able to keep clean sheets in as many games as possible.

Then, at the other end, fluke the odd goal here and there (free-kick, corner, own goal etc) and pray we somehow progress to the next round, thus avoiding what might be construed as outright humiliation by having to return home early.

The football content will vary between abject mediocrity and sheer technical ineptitude, but that won't matter as Woy will assuage all our concerns and despair by stating that it's a learning curve and we're building for the future.

We'll all probably be dead before that 'future' arrives........if it ever does.

Think the only thing I could change in that 11 from the currently available players, would be Barry - its inexplicable that he's not been selected given the season he's been having, plus having him in the side would allow Gerrard to do what he does best and get into dangerous positions rather than the silly alternating thing he has had going on with Lampard the last 10 years.

It's an utterly abject squad with the possible exception of the older players who are coming to the end of their careers. Take Gerrard, Rooney out of that 11, and it's not a huge amount better on paper than Wales

I don't actually think that team is THAT bad. It's not great, it's not going to win the world cup but it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

The front two of Rooney- Sturridge POTENTIALLY if Rooney decides to turn up could be a good partnership, Rooney running off Sturridge with Sturridge using his pace to get in behind teams.
I'd also put Jagielka ahead of Cahill. Although it looks like Terry's days of international football are over, we do seem to be pretty decent at centre backs.
Baines at left back is good but Walker at right back is a liability.

The problem is in midfield, we need a central midfielder like Fernandinho or Toure to get hold of the ball and dictate play and stomp his influence. Gerrard can sort of do it but is not as good as he used to be, Barkley may be ready in the future but the rest aren't good enough.
Outwide, We all know Johnson can be quality on his day but how often is his day? Explains why he went from the PL champions to Sunderland.
Sterling is still imo yet to develop a footballing mind and although he has unbeleivable pace and acceleration the end product is often lacking, needs a couple of years to develop.
Walcott who's really improved in the last couple of years would have been a big upgrade on any current wingers but unfortunately he's out injured.
Milner I remember was really poor out wide in the Euros.

Sterling and Johnson have both been in great form recently, and I thought we weren't selecting players on who they played for. I think Oxlade-Chamberlain could be huge for England but he's coming back off injury I believe. Walcott maybe, but I'd want him as a striker anyway, not sure who got this fucking idea that he was a winger, bet it was that fucking whiny french cunt. Walker at right back is because the choices are Micah "Glassware" Richards or Glen "Whats Tackling?" Johnson.

I'm on the fence about Sterling. His main asset is his pace, without a doubt but when he doesn't look so comfortable or assured on the ball. It's an area he needs to improve but should still be in the squad as should Johnson. I think he's behind the OX in his development just at the moment.
I don't mind the idea of Walcott upfront but in place of who? Rooney or Sturridge, Sturridge is nearly as quick and a better finisher and I'm hoping the Sturrdidge/ Shrek combination can sort of mimick the Suarez and Sturridge partnership. Sturrdige and Walcott wouldn't work as a front two. Unless you were to play a front 3, with Rooney and Walcott either side of Sturridge.

Right back as you say is a big problem and there doesn't appear to be an easy answer.

i think Glen johnson annoys me more than cleverley, who is just the latest geoff thomas clone. johnson hasnt learned his craft at all....but had potential to at 18-19 when he first emerged. forget the roberto carlos/cafu pipedreams, full backs are principally defenders and need positional sense but he is way short in that regard.

If we can avoid bringing the entire English contingent at the rags, we don't necessarily have a bad team. Certainly capable of getting out of the group. However the teams in our group are just as capable, you'd think Italy will get through and Uruguay and Costa Rica wouldn't look out of place in the knockout rounds.

Walker looked great when he broke into the Spurs side, but like most players they get a reality check after a season and have to adapt to no longer being an unknown quantity.

With Walcott, I would use him in a 4-3-3 flanking Rooney, with Sturridge coming in from the left, which I think he would relish. I think principally we have to design the lineup around a 4-4-2 but with a plan B if we are getting overrun in the middle.

As with the Ox, I think he has potential but for Soton wasn't he playing through the middle, and Wenger immediately switched him to the outside? If we come up with a team that can allow him a floating role behind the strikers(like Silva) then he could be very effective. But where does Gerrard go?

Woy really has to choose his team and not let the media and the FA dictate who gets selected. You don't win by picking the best 11 players and pushing them onto the pitch no matter what, we need the best and most balanced team.

Probably

---------------Hart
Johnson--Cahill--Jakielka--Baines
-------Gerrard---Wilshere
--Stirling----Rooney------Ox
------------Sturridge

The right back place is a problem after this plethora of talent that was meant to be emerging a few years back. I feel the rest of the XI kind of picks itself, maybe the left is debatable but Johnson's two good games have been and gone this season so definitely not him.

Estimated WC 2014 placings : 3rd in group.
