Got to admit though WW a great loaded question as winning the league in the PL is a great ask from anybody. Do you think Hughes would win the league given the chance? Would he fuck.
Wonderwall wrote:OK, every regular here knows I am pro-mark hughes person. I think that today goes down as bad day in the clubs history. The owners took over and made a very bold statement that they are here for the long term. They backed mark Hughes and labelled the new regime as a 'project' and said they were aware that it would take time and that mark hughes was the man for the long term.
However:
We have lost one home game in 2009
We are in the semi finale of the carling cup
We have not been in a semi final for 28 years
We have only lost 2 games since august
AND THEY SACKED MARK HUGHES
THAT IS AN AMAZING STATISTIC, because, believe it or not, this is CITY, who have won FUCKALL FOREVER!!
This will be a long running poll to see how we go with our new appointement, ROBERTO MANCINI. I hope he wins everything in sight and sincerely hope he blows us away with his flair, tactics and of course his infamous Italian defence..... after all that is what they are famous for!
PLEASE VOTE AS YOU SEE FIT
Colin the King wrote:Yes, I believe that Mancini will do the business. Hughes is not the worst guy in the world- he made some excellent acquisitions, gave us some scintillating football at times and was, overall, a respectful and reasonable guy as far as I could see. But in my opinion he lacks that cutting edge- he can go to Waitrose and by the ingredients for the cake but when it comes to baking it to perfection, there's his downfall. Mancini is the pâtissier, the man who'll take the ingredients supplied by Hughes and craft a wonderful side from it.
Mancini has proven himself a winner with three league titles and two domestic cups, regardless of the circumstances, and is still only a very young man (in management terms).
I think, rightly or wrongly, Mancini will command greater respect from our 'big' players and consequently we'll see a hungrier side from now on. We'll be tighter defensively and play attractive football and I genuinely believe he will be a great success.

What I do know is that for many, the only reason this City squad was failing was due to mark Hughes.
Therefore it follows that now he has been removed and is no longer the barrier to city success...Mr Mancicni MUST succeed.
With Hughes gone, there is no excuse for failure left.

In order to be an improvement he has to do two things
He has to get us to a Cup Final
And
He has to get us into the Champions League.
He's got 12 months to do this because, as others have said, he has no need to perform major surgery on this squad.
A few new players and some time to bed them in and then I expect us to be sitting in the top 4 week in week out
If he fails to do that, this move has not been a success.simple as that for me

why 12 months? Wouldn't that make it almost impossible for him to break it into Champion's League?
If you and few others people here are planning Mancini out campaign because you hate, for some odd reason, him then you should be straightforward about it. At least I never hid my utter contempt towards rag 'sparky'.
