The difference is that Wenger chose to trust his kids from the start of the competition and played them in all games. McCarthy picked a game to field a weakened side, if he believes that side to be competitive enough for the Premier League then why doesn't he play week in week out the same eleven who played United? Besides, had he been against a full United side then maybe his reasoning could have had a sense but if Wolves ever had a chance of getting points against the scum it was yesterday considering the eleven Taggart has to play due to injuries. What if he goes against Burnley in the weekend and loses? His whole reasoning will crumble, won't it? Matches between sides of the same level can easily go one way or the other, so there is a good possibility of this happening, I'd be interested to hear his comments in that case, and also if that happens and at the end of the season he needs one point to stay up, a point he could have tried getting yesterday.

So will McCarthy now choose his shit players for games against Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Villa, Spurs and indeed us? Where does he stop? He is playing a very dangerous game picking and choosing the games he thinks he can collect points from, playing Burnley this weekend isn't a guarentee of 3 points. It's never been done before but seeing as though his club are now in the bottom three it seems it isn't working already.

He just beat Spurs fishface! Think the 3 games in 8 days might have been a factor too. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't rest a few for Liverpool away, just 48 hours before they play us...

All the more reason why he shouldn't have dropped his players for the scum game imo. He's lost the momentum and confidence that winning brings. All clubs have a busy christmas schedule, granted some are better equipped than others but even the Wolves fans are disgusted with his decision. The premier league have asked Wolves to explain their actions so at least it will be investigated. I really wouldn't have minded if he made 4 or 5 changes but 10?

I THINK IT SMELLS MORE LIKE " THE SCUM WILL BEAT US ANYWAY SO I MIGHT AS WELL FIELD THIS TEAM TO GIVE THE OTHER LADS A CHANCE AGAINST BURNLEY"

THATS WHAT IT SMELLS OF.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

B.O.L.L.O.C.K.S. Its not that he trusts his youth to win him a pot, its that he doesnt trust his first team to manage all competitions and stay in the champs league... FACT!!

McCarthy has done the exact same thing on a different level.

I don't think he's a clown I am starting to think more and more that something dodgy is going on in the premier league and those rag basterds are at the heart of it. Just like Italy those few years ago..

The spirit of sport eh. Mick McCarthy should be put in stocks in Woverhampton town centre and pelted with dead animals.

Or - maybe The World's Greatest Club (TM) are so invincible that maybe every other team in the Prem should field a weakened team against them and just try and consolidate a more realistic league position for themselves, allowing the mighty ManUre to win the title every single year on maximum points.

It's only fair.

But he can now field that winning team still full of confidence as none of them played v the Scum! If he'd only changed 4 instead of 10 then he'd have damaged the confidence of 6 of those players if they'd gotten a hiding at the Swamp.

I have lost a lot of respect for McCarthy after this and I really hope that Wolves are relegated.

think back a week what team did he play in Greece ??wenger's side already assured of finishing 1st ,tough game ahead against scouser scum the weekend after he choses this team

Fabianski, Gilbert, Bartley, Silvestre, Cruise, Ramsey, Song Billong, Merida, Walcott, Wilshere (Sunu 77), Vela.
Subs Not Used: Mannone, Coquelin, Eastmond, Ayling, Randall.

no one says a thing did they??

But he played his strongest team until he was assured of being first, didn't he? He's not the first nor will be the last to do somehting like that in a cup group stage. Doing it in the league is a bit different though, unless you do that at the end of the season, with nothing to ask to the league anymore, and even then it might break the rules as there are other sides involved. You may argue that there were other teams involved in the CL group too, and that's true, but AZ was already out, and Standard Liegi had to win and hope for Arsenal to beat Olimpiacos to go through, still they failed to win their own game so they can't really complain with Arsenal fielding a weakened side.

I mean, look at it from Chelsea's POV. What if at the end of the season they lose the title by one point, would they be right to feel angry at Wolves for handing United three points so easily? I think they would.

The Premier League have a rule stating that clubs must field their strongest team. The Carling Cup doesn't have this rule.

Its the amount of players that pisses me off..Not 3-5 changes but friggin 10.
He could of grabbed a point last night against a weakened rags team but he surrendered and let the Wolves fans down..That in itself is inexcusable.
I hope Burnley trounce them weekend.

If thats the case its a stupid rule and McCarthy's actions just prove it can be abused.

So when Benitez rests Torres in the league ahead of a Champs League game why aren't Liverpool asked to explain? Surely any Liverpool team without Torres isn't their best team?

Imagine the consequences if he fielded the same team in the last game of the season against one of 2 sides fighting for Prem league title. There would be fuckin uproar.
Its bad for the game and he should have the book thrown at him or else it will happen again.
