Anyone ever been to watch Bury?
Thinking of going to one of the lower league local sides in when I'm over in January, seeing as City are playing Blackburn on the Monday. Only ever been to Altrincham and Oldham (which was shite) myself. Wanted to see Rochdale, but they are playing away.

I was there the saturday between the Hamburg game and the WBA game last april. It was quiet nice. 'bout 3,5 k . The shakers vs Maccelsfiled. 3-nil Bury if I remember rightly. We took the Bury tram from Vic and as mentioned in a previous post it was walking distance from Metrostation. Worth a go IMO.

I have watched Bury home, it seems like a friendly club to me. The town is smaller than Oldham as I remember. Once we came in at half time after having watched City, met one of their players outside and he helped us in. Another time I went there with two other english football anoraks (but otherwise healthy!) for a Friday night match and we had a good time after the game in Bury. Always had a soft spot for Bury because of Colin Bell having played there. Also worth to mention - Maine Road play at home on Saturday the 9th January.

Cheers for the tip about Maine Road!
Might opt for them then, seeing as the ticket prices for Bury are pretty expensive. 20 quid for a league 2 game!

I used to sometimes work on the turnstiles there back in the mid/late 80s.

One lad I used to know who was an ardent supporter, and used to turn up each home game. One time he turned up late with his face swollen up like the elephant man. Enquired as to whether he had the proverbial kicked out of him by some away fans, then came his response.

He was already late for the game and was doing a Linford Christie to catch up. Until he hit a discarded fridge freezer as he turned into an underpass under Peel Way. Knocked himself out and winded.

He still lasted the 90 mins watching his beloved in the rain.

;-)

I hear the rags held their reserve games for a while and maybe still do for all I know. For that reason, I couldn't go back there.

Wouldn't give Bury the steam off my piss to be honest. Lot's of United connections - the Neville brothers dad Neville Neville!!! is commercial manager there, Uniteds reserves did/do play there, FC United of Manchester play there and the tickets have always been a rip off. Get yourself down to Maine Road

Not to mention the fact they used to sell Rag shirts in their own club shop! Steer well clear of this mickey-mouse club!
