For my part, whatever the stats, the season to date feels most like the early first season under Kevin Keegan in the Championship (I can’t remember if the division was called that at the time). A new manager, new players and new style of play producing some fine performances (6-2 at Sheffield Wednesday followed by 3-0 against Walsall) while some loose defending (expected under Keegan anyway!) meant these were often followed by defeats (losing 0-4 away to Wimbledon after Walsall).
As the team got used to each other that season, we improved and hit our stride in December, going top on New Year’s Day where we stayed (except for a few weeks at second when we had games in hand because of FA Cup commitments). It ended as one of my favourite campaigns (1980-1, my first as a S/T holder, the solitary season in the real Division 3 with the famous play off final and the PL winning season are up there too).
Of course history never repeats itself exactly, and the quality of the opposition is now much higher than in the Championship (Rags excepted), so it will be harder to ‘play ourselves in’. Nevertheless, I am an optimist, and so I’m suspending my judgement on the manager until after Christmas, because I would love it, really love it, if he could repeat the pattern of King Kevin’s first season.
Top post and you could be onto something there.

Hats off mr. Pellergrini.

Great post.
The 4 nil has actually at home. I recall an imposter of a footballer called Toure?? started upfront for us that game. He was one of Willie McKays bunch. I am sure if it was looked closely enought it would be found that alot of Keegans signings that season were backhanders.
We did lose to Wimbeldon away that year. Stuart Pearce got sent off.
The strangest result that season was losing to Stockport away. I think we got the record number of points that season and lost to the team who went down with the lowest points tally ever. Carlton Palmer was their manager.

I'm quite happy with Pelligrini still and think hes doing the right things. Although we haven't been great at the back I think in the league at least we have played better than our points total suggests (horribly unlucky at Chelsea, and the Villa result was an aberration).
GD also tends to be a good indicator of how a team will perform, and ours is now far ahead of everyone else which is a good sign.
We are the best team in the division for me and when they are playing their best noone else gets close. It feels unlikely to me that Arsenal will keep up their great form throughout the whole season, and Liverpool will fall away before long too, so we still have a great chance. Out fixture against Chelsea (who I feel will be the main challengers still) is at home and I'm very confident in our home form.
At this point I'm feeling very optimistic, and think we will recover from the stupid points we threw away. Its shaping up to be a very interesting season and I'd make us favourites still. Though its been such a strange season so far that I think really anything can happen.
Either way I'm quite happy with Pelligrini's approach to things so far and like him personally.

By the way if after smashing Norwich 7-0 and after Sunderland being the worst team ever and just having had 2 players sent off whilst losing to Hull, if they beat us 1-0 again next week I'm going to actually go nuts.
Its not very difficult to imagine it happening though is it >.<

You're right it was a 4-0 HOME loss to Wimbledon, which makes the up and downs that year even stranger. I can do without a 4-0 drubbing at home this season but happy with today obviously !

It was the 7 different scorers and the ruthlessness that impressed me the most.
We had some terrific high sciring results under mancini, but for the most part I always felt we lacked ruthlessness when we were supremely dominant in games.
I don't think that will be the case anymore, whatever else happens!

Cannot fail but to impressed since freak result v Villa. 4 wins and THAT silly loss at Chelsea is great reply. Scoring goals for fun as well is never a bad thing either. Can see us winning next 4/5 comfortably as well. Happy days lie in wait

Johnson doesn't play for us though.

Still worried about the defending and goal keeping situation, both of those may well come back to haunt us a few times yet.

Cardiff - we had 70% possession and only managed 5 shots on target, Cardiff had 6. Interestingly we committed 11 fouls to their 2.
Stoke - 58% possession. 3 shots on target and stoke managed 3 aswell.
Villa - 67% possession. 7 shots on target to their 4.
Chelsea - 55% possession. 6 shots to their 4.
Beating a really shit Norwich at home doesn't change much, we are still far from ruthless.

Oh we're ruthless alright. You need quality and certainly no giant individual fuck ups to regularly utilise it, but we go for the jugular at every opportunity.
I love it.

Great to win like this obviously but the real test now will be to see if we can follow it up with a convincing display and 3 points in our next away game. We all know how good we are at home but our last 3 managers have failed to bring out away from up to scratch.

If we didn't fuck up against the Chav's, Pellers would be sat in 2nd with Maureen just a place above the Rags. How one blunder can obscure perceptions.

10 wins from 1st 15 matches is pretty good by Pellers. After that win yesterday were 2/1 favourites to win the league. We have a very good manager and world class team. I'm satisfied with what i have seen.
