I know the team is evolving, but our and the Count's record on the road is not very good. I can't help but think, that we should be playing a 4-5-1 formation, that's not being negative because we have plenty enough flair and creativity to score but allowing us to play to our strengths and sure up the midfield so we can control these away games better. So far we've been just so rigid with the 4-4-2 and as result show, we're letting ourselves down.
So West Ham away next......What would be you're starting eleven and what formation.....Thoughts gent's???

Many pf the goals we have conceded have been from individual mistakes. A system change wont resolve that - working on concentration and embedding the midfield tactics - possibly sticking milner and kolarov in the wide midfield berths rather than navas and silva would give us a bit more steel

I still feel Merlin is crutial to our success, when we went to 5 in the midfield that when we had more ball retention and created more chances and thats what I basing my thought on

I agree with the sentiment, but where does nasri fit into that, and Aguero?
Essentially it would leave us with negredo or dzeko on his own, with silva, nasri, jovetic and aguero fighting it out for one position behind the striker. That alone suggests that we will have to start with two up front, and one of the creative midfielders on the wing. Its a conundrum im not sure i have the answer to.

I agree with you on that to. It's difficult to keep everyone happy. I think the opposition team we're playing should dicate the team and tactics. Against Villa, I would of gone with a 442, because I thought, this team should of beat them, tbh, I was almost drolling with some of the football in th first half and distraught with the blunders of the second half, this is the grey area the manager has to find that solution.but with a run of four away games on the bounce and 2 very good teams stand in our way in Chelsea & Bayern and lets not forget WHU put Spuds to the sword last week

I would almost take a mancini style (from his first few months) back to basics in these next few games to try and get some consistency in the shape of the midfield and defence, whatever the formation may be, we have to try and keep it simple and do the easy things well and get our drills and awareness of team mates positioning spot on before the rest of it can slot into place.
That and a bit of resiliance. We seem to be folding towards the end of games, which is something I dont associate with this team who have the experience to play these games out from a winning position.

I could live with that
I shuddered with dread at the gelson reference though haha.
I would love to see yaya used in that type of system.....interesting thing is that if he was, and nasri and silva also played, i think aguero would have to start as being more mobile and nippy to interact with them. Negredo is almost undroppable though with the trouble he causes particularly in an away game, so tough choices for the boss
