No cabaye for newcastle, good boost I spose, bit odd on the day of an arsenal bid, and no report of an injury.

It's a 4-2-2-2. Always is always was.

A more serious answer: I hope so, because Silva will not stay to long on his left side. Perhaps five minutes or so in total of the total game time.

i'm probably being thick here, but i don't really believe in 4-2-2-2, because it never works out that way - someone has to cover the flanks. no team is that fluid.

It was a reference to the much debated preferred formation of Pellegrini. I think it was a combined thickness from the both of us.

And then I was unclear. What I meant with my serious comment is that I hope he plays Aguero on the left flank in a 4-5-1 because Silva seemed to make it perfectly clear during pre-season that he wasn't intending to spend that much time on the left flank as opposed to being in the middle, trying to connect through-balls with forwards or Nasri. In other words, I hope it's a 4-5-1 with Aguero given some defensive duties to cover up for Silva.

No Barry on the bench again. No Jovetic either.

I guess Pellegrini didnt like the two big strikers playing together and wants Aguero/Jovetic playing behind.

Awesome lineup, hope to see some fluid attacking moves. Definitely not a lineup that Mancini would have put out and a clear signal in our 1st game of the season. Glad to see us using all of the attacking talent that we have.

The bench looks thin on defensive cover, maybe Garcia as a backup CB?

COME ON CITY!!!

Just that we start with full thrust and calm at back .

that's what i'm concerned about mate - aguero has proved on more than one occasion that he's fucking useless trying to cover the left flank - mind, i doubt newcastle will be getting their FB over the halfway line very often....

According to Pellegrini Jovetic came back from International duty with a 'slight doubt' so they decided not to risk him.

confirmation

Manuel Pellegrini has explained that Stevan Jovetic's absence from the squad tonight is because he came back from international duty with Montenegro with a few minor niggles. He should be in the running for City's next game.

He's a dickhead but he made me chuckle just then, talking about Arsenal and their tight fisted transfer dealings; "there's only one section of people overspending at Arsenal and that's the fans."
