a lot seem to think nasri will be a substitute in the early days of the season, it seems.

in some situations, i can see it, but jovetic is more likely to sit as of now in this case, i think.

maybe i'm wrong, but if nasri performs as to his capabilities, i think he is likely better than jovetic right now.

otherwise, this could be a formation/best xi we use, but seems we've used two strikers now in the last two matches, with dzeko and negredo seeming to perform nicely together, so hard to say if i'm all in on this being the best xi.

I'd go with the OP's lineup. But maybe Milner instead of Navas.

OP for me with one change. Lescott for the mute who can't jump. Sorry to be so nasty Nasti, but the aerial ball and comms with goalies is holding him back.

I'd like to think the manager can pick a variety of teams that will damage different opposition in different ways.

Not even going to try and pretend i know much about how Pellegrini works...

Does anyone know from his previous roles if he tends to stick with a team or if he's a serial rotator?

Whilst it's clear a squad in the CL and all the other competitions is going to need rotating, some managers tend to do it more than others. I remember getting frustrated at Bob's tendency at the start of last year to rotate defenders which i'm really not a big fan of.

That

Hart and Kompany I would go as far to say are the closest things we now have to a "nailed on" starter in the XI

The rest...well what a lovely selection of talent we have

Depends who you are playing really doesn't it?

Against some teams you would want to pack the midfield, against others you would want to take the game to them. That's the beauty of a squad like ours, there really isn't a clear first 11

Very true... Still I'd be keen to know people's base or default formation/team that we would use against European elite

Maybe it's me but I'm a tad surprised so many think Navas will be in the usual 1st 11.

No solid basis why he shouldn't be here, I just had the impression he was here to compete with Nasri, silva etc and would need to win a spot.

Except Nasri and Silva both play on the left when they aren't playing behind the striker, and Navas is a right winger.

And if you saw him on Saturday night, you'd see a very singular reason why he will feature heavily.
