Manchester City set to beat United, Chelsea and Arsenal to Stevan Jovetic

MANUEL PELLEGRINI could land his first blow against title rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal as City prepare to wrap up the signing of Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic.

Stevan Jovetic is poised to join Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City

Jovetic's future has turned into a transfer saga this summer, with Manchester City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal all linked with the Montenegrin international.

However, the 23-year-old looks set to nail his colours to the Citizens mast after reports stated that his agent Fali Ramadani was in negotiations with City.

Despite an expected late move from David Moyes to bring Jovetic to United, City are in pole position to bring in the £28million star this summer, satisfying Pellegrini's wish for more firepower.

"We have two strikers and we need another one," said Pellegrini.

"We need a very good squad. Next week we will see about different players.

"We will try to bring with the best players from all parts of the world."

City could secure two forwards to replace the departed Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli, with Sevilla's Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo likely to join Jovetic at the Etihad Stadium this summer

AND

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is set to win the first skirmish with rival David Moyes as he looks set to win the £28m race for Fiorentina star Stevan Jovetic, according to the Daily Mirror.

Manchester United staged a late bid for the Montenegrin international but the report claims Pellegrini is on the cusp of completing the deal after "intensive" talks between the player's representatives and City sporting director Txiki Begiristain on Wednesday.

Jovetic's agent, Fali Ramadani, reportedly held discussions with City officials, who green-lighted a five-year contract with £80,000-per-week.

Fiorentina had given City permission earlier in the week to talk numbers with their star striker.

It comes after United reportedly attempted to muscle in on the action. The report claims they still haven't given up hope entirely, but it looks increasingly likely that Jovetic will not be heading to Old Trafford.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Juventus have all been linked with the young forward as well. But they have all moved on to other targets, leaving the Manchester giants in a straight fight.

Ramadani has informed City that he wants to hold a final round of talks with both Manchester clubs before his player makes a final decision, but it's believed City are in pole position.

They hold the advantage of an existing relationship with Fiorentina, having swapped Stefan Savic plus cash for Matija Nastasic last summer.

Jovetic would be a key piece of Manuel Pellegrini's plans next season as he pledges to play an exciting attacking style of football at the Etihad Stadium.

The 23-year-old was Fiorentina's top scorer last season, bagging 13 goals from 31 Serie 'A' appearances. He can play in any of the three attacking midfield positions - through the middle or out wide - or can operate as a striker.

There'll never be another Carlos Tevez but he's probably the best option to make up some of what's been lost with Tevez's departure.

If Jovetic ultimately signs for us, does this mean he will have "snubbed" The Scum (not to mention Chelsea and Arsenal) ??

......or in the 'Land of Snubdom', do the rules state that this description is only to be applied to City ??

No, the rags are 'rebuffed', whilst others are 'snubbed'.
Oh, and thanks for the kind remark in the Pellegrini thread.

No, the way it works (and I've seen this as late as yesterday with Lewandowski)... "United cooled their interest before he snubbed City."

This would be a decent signing as the article points out he can play out of midfield so he offers a lot of flexibility and cover in one package. Plus I like that this isn't a superstar signing, he wouldn't be expected to bag goals every game so he can float under the radar for a bit while he gets up to speed. Good age to get some value out of him too if he does ok.

It is also a good feeling that the manager and the directors are on the same page for once and left to get on with their respective jobs, lets hope this continues now.

Manchester City are set to take their summer spending to over €104 million after moving closer to securing both Fiorentina attacker Stevan Jovetic and Sevilla forward Alvaro Negredo, Goal understands.

Sporting director Txiki Begiristain has not travelled with the squad on their pre-season tour of South Africa as he looks to tie up deals for the pair, who emerged as top targets in recent weeks after missing out on Isco to Real Madrid and Edinson Cavani, who is close to joining Paris Saint-Germain.

City officials met with Jovetic's agent, Fali Ramadani, at Mottram Hall in Cheshire on Wednesday, with both parties keen to discuss a deal to bring the 23-year-old to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

The Premier League runners-up no longer have first option on the Montenegro international following the sacking of Roberto Mancini in May, but have maintained their long-standing interest in the attacker, who they see as a viable alternative to Isco.

Goal understands that Jovetic would receive an €92,000-a-week salary package at City, and club officials are confident of tying up a move in the coming days with Fiorentina happy to maintain their close links to City, harboured following Stefan Savic's move to Serie A last summer.

Meanwhile, City have also received the green light to complete a €23m move for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo after the Spanish side confirmed the signing of Carlos Bacca from Club Brugge.

Colombian Bacca has been brought in by Sevilla chief Monchi as a replacement to Negredo, who will see his salary doubled to €87,000-a-week in Manchester.

Sevilla and City have maintained a strong relationship following Jesus Navas' €21m move to the Etihad earlier this summer, and the Premier League outfit have agreed to meet the Spanish outfit's asking price.

Negredo emerged as City's key striker target after the club refused to meet Cavani's €63 million buyout clause at Napoli and baulked at his €290,000-a-week salary demands. The Uruguayan is close to completing a move to the French capital following discussions over his personal terms.

Jovetic and Negredo would be City's third and fourth major signings of the summer re,spectively, with Navas and Fernandinho having already been secured in June prior to Pellegrini's appointment.

If we get both Negredo and Jovetic, I would be delighted.

Exactly the quality of players we need, at prices that make sense.

Honestly if reports are to believed, both these players wages combined will be less than we paid Balotelli per week.. staggering stuff.

That's because we are City and we can't possibly strike a good deal because our owners are clueless.

All good tabloid journos know this and write accordingly.

Haha exactly. "United got out while they still could and avoided this transfer catastrophy".
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

I think the 80 grand one is about it. We seem on a definite mission to target poorly paid players who will snap your hand off for that.

Only one irate person telling people to fuck off here chief, and it ain't me.

So,to humour you - from your vast knowledge of football contracts in Italy and overseas, what makes you think that £80k is about right for this lad as opposed to any other figure?

Nb, I'd much prefer that you're right by the way
