Fav football headlines

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Fav football headlines

Postby Evenmydoghatesunited » Fri Jun 28, 2013 5:40 am

Typing up some invective about the joys of Scottish league football elsewhere I am reminded of one of my fav headlines from the back pages after Inverness Caledonian Thistle had beaten up the Scottish rags in some bonkers competition or another:

Supercallyarefantasticcelticareatrocious

Anyone got any other favourites?

wasn't it

"Super cally go ballistic, Celtic were attrocious"

either way I can't better it

That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.

COX OUT!
With reference to then Newcastle manager Arthur Cox.
Might not be true mind, but it should be.
Similar for Alan Dicks at Bristol I think.

Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Trying to remember and/or find (and failing) the one that went something like "Keegan fills gap at back with Seaman" or something
"You sir, will either be hung as a traitor or die of the pox"
"That sir, depends on whether I embrace your principles or your mistress"

I met a rather dodgy Scottish gentleman who lost a finger in a drunken bet with Norwegian gangsters on the strength of that Celtic result.

He recited the headline in the tale, which was actually quite funny.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the classic Sun headline when Clough punched a spectator at Notts Forrest game, " The shit hits the fan"

Don't know about headlines but Motty has made me smile a couple of times. First with his famous "Kuntz" comment and from the same tournament re Portugals Secretario "I don't know what his shorthand and typing are like but he's a decent full back".

I seem to remember when the club let Paul Dickov go the headline was: "Sven to chop Dickov"
