Couldn't watch the whole game it was dire stuff. Watched Michael Ballack and Friends (which didn't have Ballack in it 2nd half) versus the World, cracking game. end to end. finished 4-3 when the ref blew the game with 8 minutes to go.

You actually do.

I do? Really?

I really don't like the language used about football, which is very dramatic and either crap crap crap or magnificent. I wasn't aware that I lacked nuances myself.

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

I'm confused. It is what it is I guess.

Agree about overstatement. But we are light years behind Italy in basic technique and as ever with Pearce the team play is from the 1974 Big book of Football Champions. And Butland was astonishingly poor for a lad the big teams apparently fancied. Jonjo must be at least 48years old.Difficult to see any potential world class players in this lot, but then I said that about Jones and Smalling!!!

At least we are starting to see a similarity between the way the U21's & the full team play.

Spain and Germany are going to rule senior tournaments for at least next decade. There are some proper impressive guys in both teams.

Who in the German squad? I don't really know their players.

I like Jantschke. That Kolasinac guy is supposed to be real one for the future. Ditto Can but that's only going according to some reports. Patrick Herrman seems impressive as well. And Bernd Leno would probably be close to most senior teams in Europe but you know how it is with goalkeepers in current Germany senior team.

Don't forget Rode (possibly going to Bayern in the future), Holtby, Volland & a couple others.

On top of that Germany are missing Trapp - arguably the best keeper in the Bundesliga last season until his major injury. Though Baumann & Leno are both very good as well.
Also injured are Kirchhoff (signed by Bayern), Jung (usually first choice RB in the U21 squad) & Arslan (first team midfielder for Hamburg).

That said, Italy have some serious talent upfront. Insigne, Immobile, Destro, Paloschi, Borini, Florenzi + Verratti in midfield.

sort of player we used to sign

Fact that this went completely ignored means that majority of people have you on ignore.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Wijnaldum was the one of the youngsters that had been given great rating for development on Football Manager, like 2007 and 2008. So he's still around then I take it? How's he doing? (I'm tired and can't be bothered watching tonight)

I thought he really stood out in a very average and young Feyenoord team a few season back.
He's been good at PSV too, but not good enough to make it at the very top in my opinion. A bit hit and miss, but I do think he will feature quite often for the Dutch team quite regularly in the years to come.
Watching him at the U21 Euros, you have to remember that he's one of the older players there. He's turning 23 this autumn.

It's been a while since we were worse than Norway. Looks like we have that to look forward to in a few years, if this lot plus Cleverly, Jones, Wilshire & Wellbeck are the future.

serious question...if you were to substitute the full england side for pearces squad would they look any better?...any more accomplished in the basics of the game that should be coached from 5 years old and onwards?..I for one dont think they would and i dont think theyd win it either...i think a lot of the england team have no bottle...add that to technical deficiencies which are becoming painful to watch i think 7/1 on england not getting to brazil is a good bet.
