Lampard's penalty

Postby giokingkladze » Sun Dec 06, 2009 12:25 pm

Did anybody else sat in the South Stand yesterday see Tevez standing directly behind Lampard before his run up, directing Given which way to dive? And he was right!

I read on here that Given suggested Hughes had researched it before the match.

Not quite. Given credits Kevin Hitchcock with the insight in his post-match interview on the official site.

Seems to be a lot of different views on this. After the match on ESPN, Shay said that he had Lescott to thank as he had done the research on FL's pennos.

Either way it was researched and shows what a great goalie he is.

Just before Lampard took the pen, on the big screen they showed the little lad from Wed night and he pointed to Givens right with his hot dog. FACT

Ha ha! Nice one - Shay would have looked a silly SAUSAGE if he´d gone the other way though ;)

Perhaps that's what Lescott was thinking of for the two months he was supposed to be defending?

What makes me laugh about Lampards penalty though is that they were bragging right before the penalty saying how he hasnt missed a pen in so many games.

Well he has now.

Quite a few missed pens in the league this weekend. All poor and down the middle too!

Yeah there were loads missed - but as thisWorld Cup article on England chances notes, 3 were by English takers. This is another reason to be a worried England fan June. Two scenarios: we somehow endeavour to lose against USA and finish second in our group, or alternatively, we play fine but Germany are their usual underwhelming selves and manage to finish second in their's. We meet them in the knockouts, go to penalties and its tears before bedtime.

I seriously wonder who England are going to use now. Lampard missed for England last World Cup, Gerrard is pretty consistent, Rooney should manage, Barry is a very good penalty taker. But after that I'm struggling. As a side England don't have enough composed penalty takers, and we'll be needing them against Germany. Only consolation is Ballack missed in the Carling Cup last week, but think that's only the second or so in his career he's missed!

The world cup is going to take it's usual course of England going out in the quarter finals by way of a penalty shoot-out to whoever. But we're gonna have a ball during the competition with lots of tension and excitement so enjoy it for what it is. Germany will win win it!

Definitely - I was working later Saturday night and watched stone cold sober. I heard 'Kevin Hitchcock'.
