I don't understand all the fear over a "group of death", when we played Trinidad and Paraguay in the 2006 the matches were excruciating because the players were expected to win, overly nervous and under pressure to be creative against teams that stifled, rather than compete in a proper match. If we want to do well, we need to beat tough opponents eventually, I'd rather we warmed up to it with some intensity. We did far better when we had Argentina and Nigeria in our group in 2002.

How do people reckon South Africa will get on from pot 1. This football article on the World Cup mentions that they have odds of 120-1 to win it (fair enough really), but just 21-1 to reach the final. Do people really expect them to get that far!? Anyone who bet on them reaching the final would be crazy to then not take the next step and think, why not?

Capello is certainly raving about the African teams, but I reckon the local support won't carry them all the way to the semis. Quarters quite probably, but for all the strength of the Ivory Coast, I can see them leaking goals.

i hope we get them, and give them a proper hammering.

as an aside, in the two practice draws yesterday England were drawn with Oz both times.

If we did draw each other I guarantee it would be the highest rating Australian show on TV for 2010. It would make for a group of death too.

From pot 1 I'd want South Africa, England, Spain (if they are in the choking mood) or Argentina.

From pot 3 I'd want to AVOID Nigeria, Uruguay and the Ivory Coast.

From pot 4 I fear Denmark and Portugal. Normally I'd say the Balkans but after the last world cup I think we'd go in confident of getting a result.

It's going to be fun!!!!

5pm uk time

I swear i saw the other day the draw was at 17:45???

Bastard Fifa, inconsiderate knobs 17:00 programme starts just when the majority of us are about to leave work!!!!! On a good day i can make the pub from the office in around 13 minutes (9 miles) so 17:45 would be perfect. Phone my order in for a pint to be sat on the bar for me :-)

The real stuff ( the actual picking of balls) doesn't start until 5:52 from what someone who claims to be in the know told me.

Haha mate, i was just thinking that if Charlize is in the entertainment it wouldn't be so bad to go through it before the actual draw where she will surely part of it as assistant to some Fifa officer, I don't remember his name though.

Did anyone expect South Korea to get to the semifinal in 2002? Nope, but they did, somehow. The team hosting the event often reaches the final stages of it, in some way, and South Africa is definitely better than South Korea.

A for Capello, I think he has a point, especially about Ivory Coast, they have Kolo and Yaya Tourè, Drogba, Kalou, Ebouè as star players, and other average players like Romaric, Demel, Zokora, Meitè and others to complete their team. They can be dangerous, as can Ghana with Essien, Muntari, Appiah, deffo a strong midfield, although Ghana lacks a true goalscorer. Cameroon, instead, only has Eto'o to rely on, imho, so they are less of a threat, and Nigeria has great physical strength but no real star so I don't see them as a huge threat.
