this monkey boy shit is a bit old and, frankly, ridiculous. so if fans can get banned from stadiums for throwing bananas at him or making monkey noises at him can we cut this shit out?

Can they?

I thought they threw fans out for being racist when throwing bananas and making monkey noises. What grounds would they throw you out for doing that towards Bale?

I like it. Monkey Boy won it because everybody hates Van Pussy and the Rags.

Well done.

But its not a racist thing calling him monkey boy. If he were black then there would be uproar. Fact is he has the facial features of a monkey. End of. It aint racist.

Congrats to him - he's been excellent this season and is really turning into a top-class player.

It's a shame Zab wasn't nominated, but pleased he at least made it into the team of the season. Fully deserved.

No, it isn't, but...

I reckon it's pretty inadvisable to make monkey noises and/or gestures at a football match whatever the circumstances, given their historical significance. It's just bad taste. Likewise, it's pretty sad that a group of middle-aged fellas would take pleasure in taunting a young lad over his admittedly unfortunate facial features at a match.

It's not a particularly funny nickname anyway. Almost as bad as Dazby's 'Superjaw' moniker for Milner. Sorry, Dazby!

It doesn't upset me to the point where I'd try and shut down its usage on an internet forum, though.

Totally get what you mean at grounds. Yes thats different as could be percieved as racist chanting. On forums though soon as you read 'monkey boy' you instantly know someones on about Bale.

the ban was for throwing stuff on the pitch, not that it was a banana.

Problem with the monkey chants is they could be misconstrued and do hawk back to a less savoury time in football. Not sure how you laugh at someone for have chimp like features though without it sounding a bit seventies.

i agree. calling him monkey boy is ridiculous, because he is a gibbon and gibbons are a type of ape. "the primate" would also be acceptable.
