First of all, for whatever reason, this the percentage on this board in relation to support for Hughes has always differed greatly with larger polls or indeed general concensus at the games.... so I'd say you're off when you say that HALF of City supporters don't support the manager.

Also, you then mention that "what we've learned during hughes tenure" is that football fans are fickle??! It didn't take Hughes to tell any fan that. Win and we're happy, lose and we're pissed off. That is the way of the football fan.

Just because you say to yourself and the rest of us that you have "now lost patience and want him gone" doesn't mean a lot at all really because people who state the likes of that may spout all over the board, but at the end of the day, he'll be here until the owner decides and when we win you'll still be happy and when we lose you'll repeat that you want him gone.

If being happy when we win and being unhappy when we lose is fickle then all of us are in the same boat... polls like this will change of course, because (hypothetically) to say "I don't want him here just because we've won all these games in a row" is worse than fickle IMO.

I have a friend that has a lot of experience in conducting opinion polls - I discussed this with him a while ago and her 'considered' opinion would indicate that the evidence here is a majority support for Hughes.

Reasons for this is that people are indeed fickle - but it would work the other way around to how has been indicated. - i.e. a poll conducted at this time after a bad run etc - should indeed show a big vote for out )if that is indeed the trend) - but if there is a quite even spilt then the underlying trend is indeed favourable when adjusted for 'bias'

It follows that such a poll should also be adjusted for 'optimism bias' if it was conducted after 7 straight wins

dont forget this is after 7 draws, the picture would be much worse if it were after 7 losses.

51% not in favour of sacking Hughes?

Seems to be 50-50 right now. What is real worry here is the fact that 50% of people are willing to give him boot meaning he doesn't have even nearly full support of supporters.

That said, as we have learned during Hughes tenure, football supporters are ficklest of people and few good results will get 20-30 of yes people on board again.

don't want to be a knobhead but I wonder if there should have been a 4th option: "I never wanted him". I then wonder if we wouldn't have 4 near equal sets of votes?
What the poll is currently showing is that after 7 draws 58 (ish) internet users with varying degrees of City history would sack him.
How many of those have a view impacted by his performance, and how many by his background?
I do think it's a shame that "half the board" seem to want him out but that will keep the threads interesting so long as we put our points as rationally as we can and make allowances for those that think differently.

For me it has nothing to do with who he played for in the past and I dont see why people use that as a reason for the fact that a lot of us are not that impressed with him.
For me it is simply that I think he is not good enough.

HMMMMMM..... this is the view many who support Hughes in charge keep repeating. However I haven't seen any "larger polls" and last season talking to people in games it certainly wasn't straightforward "every season ticket holder supports Hughes....it's just people on Internet". In fact that is highly insulting to lot of hardcore lifelong season ticket holder Blues. For example, I talked to one Blue whose attendance to games is equal match to likes of Kippax and he seemed FAR from impressed with him.

Regarding "wins in a row".... well there hasn't been consistent run of results at any stage in Hughes tenure, yet people have changed their opinion alot. I think that's very fickle.

Regarding Alex's post later, he raises the point that many people would say they didn't want him in first place. That may be very true. Most people KNEW when he was appointed that there'd be percentage of people who would NEVER take liking to him. One of the reasons why it was such ill adviced appointment. That said, he has so far done nothing to win those people on side.

Furthermore, I have been shocked over the last year and half the way "not caring about rags" has become some sort of badge of honour. You have to repeat over and over again that "his past doesn't really bother me". Well it DOES bother me and I'm not afraid to say it. Only yesterday poster called "Oliver Hardy" was giving hard time (not for the frst time either) to someone for saying it. Why oh why did we have to appoint him at all? I could maybe understand it if he had great managerial record but having done fuck all in his career, the whole appointment still puzzles me.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

O'neil What has he ever won?

seriously, many have used this a an argument against Hughes (and its looking like they could be right to do so) so why should it be any different with anyone else? fuck O'neil, we need to go in at the top, spend a lot of money on a manager who REALLY knows what he is doing and has a bob Taylor sized bag full of trophies in the past - the recent past. we have the potential to be the best, why skimp on the manager?

There certainly seems more hysteria on the message boards than the general City public.

However the simple fact is that if we beat Arsenal and Chelsea, and this poll is re-done on Monday the result will be completely different with a semi-final and a decent league position.

Which is why I voted 'wait and see' and also why the owners wont change anything in the near future.

Sometimes an average Manager makes it to the top of the managerial tree...Sometimes a top manager fall from the top and isn't sucessful.

I'm not a Hughes fan by any means, but I'm also not ready to kick him out just yet.

44 Days Clough was at Leeds and was the top man at the time, and it didn't work out, so getting the best doesn't necessarily mean success...Any appointment has to be an improvement, ie If Hughes has won 45% of games and he gets the push, we should be looking at someone who can win 50%.

Honestly, Hughes and Clough in same post????

Personally I feel that most managers would do better than him with the players we have got. I would be looking for SERIOUS improvement.

I'm no fan of Hughes and our league form is great concern. However he got us to semi's and deserves to stay at least until then.

As you've always said NQDP, you can't argue against results, and the first semi in 30 years (source: Mr Nool) says it all. It's progress. That result bought him 3 months in my books. If we can get past the rags I'll lick his balls.

we keep on being told by the club that this is a long term plan. For me, that means the background stuff that's going on will bring success long term. What happens on the pitch will, eventually, be the product of all that work. 90% of the stuff going on is behind the scenes. January will see the next phase in the team building programme.
For me, the season's final league position and whether we qualify for Europe, either via the Europa League or Champions League will dictate whether the Sheikh and his entourage see Hughes as the man to lead us to their vision.

Have faith. Success too early and a short term fix may only bring the boom and bust of the last 30 years. You only have to look at Stretford to see what long term planning can bring. How many rags called for Sir Bacon face's scalp after the 5-1 in 1989? Now look at them. Well, okay, don't look at them now, but look at what they have achieved for nearly 20 years.
