During the 2002 World Cup, Danish weekly gossip magazine Se & Hør ran a story that Tøfting, when aged 13, had returned home from school to find the bodies of his parents. His mother had been shot by his father, who shortly thereafter turned the gun on himself. The story had been kept secret for years, as Tøfting had not yet told his children. Following the incident, Se & Hør chief editor Peter Salskov was fired. In celebrations among the Danish players following the 2002 FIFA World Cup, at "Café Ketchup" in Copenhagen, Tøfting head-butted the proprietor of the café. He stood trial in October 2002 and was convicted to four months in jail, which he served from April to July 2003.

He was released early from prison in July 2003, in order to move to China to play for Tianjin Taida. When his contract expired in December 2003, he once again returned to AGF in February 2004. In July 2004, Tøfting was once more under charges for violence after he pushed a man in the chest following a traffic dispute,[8] and received two fines of DKK 1,000 each. In December 2004, Tøfting was fired from AGF following a bust-up at an AGF players' Christmas lunch
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Gotta be Nigel at the moment.

Dunno about past players, maybe Neil Pointon? It seemed he had it written in his contract that he had to try and end someone's career in every game. And Horlock's walk surely has him in contention?

Stuart Pearce did fracture his leg playing for West Ham. That is a true story (well its a Redknapp anecdote, so, make your own minds up as to how truthful it is).

He got tackled in a way that led to treatment. Went off the pitch, but told Harry that he could continue. Can't remember whether he played the remainder of the match, or until half-time, but scans at a later stage revealed the fracture.

Pearce is old-school. Would sooner slit his own throat than dive or roll around after a foul.

Billy Bonds was harder though.

As for your current hardest guy, from afar, I'd say De Jong looks like 'City's Meanest'. Bellamy obviously likes the odd tear-up too.

Weediest? Probably Robinho. I still chuckle about the story that he practically cried and begged to be released by Real.

How about Eric Nixon? Vonky?

How about the softest? There was something remarkably soft about Alan Kernaghan.

nah, i reckon hughes can stick and move with the best.

in my early days, has to be tiatto. you'd love him by your side if it got a bit sticky.

does anyone else think given has a mad glint in his eye sometimes? kind of "push me a bit further and the shellagh is coming out" style?

loved micah and zabba steaming in to back SWP vs stoke last season as well.

When you consider the maedarse antics of some of the soft twats...Old school, it just has to be TRAUTMANN.

Not sure about past players...Dave Watson never took a backward step and his battles with Joe Jordan were legend. Mike Doyle was a tough guy, as was Tony Coleman.
Tiatto never impressed me but Morrison could frighten me in the stands.
I'd go with pit bull De Jong in the present squad but have a feeling that we still might find a dark horse yet to be discovered.

I can't fault you john about Bert. or Dave Watson. Sometimes though away from home , I felt that Mike Doyle went hiding. Especially at Anfield and Stoke ( for some reason) . Although tommy certainly was a hard bugger, he struck me a bit like tommy smith at the pool.

Heslop was a toughie too. I guess if we had had Jerry Gow from being an apprentice he would have probably taken the title. I watched him a lot at college in Bristol, he really was a tough bugger. When he finally got to City we started to look better again, his crunching tackles certainly will be remembered.

modern day cruncher ? Difficult, De Jong is certainly in the mould, but he doesn't strike me as being that hard.

Bellamy is definately the one who you wouldnt argue with, he would slot you without thinking about it

Morrison, mmmm not sure, he was a big intimidating fucker and having been there that day when he "stuck his tongue down collymore's throat", have to say had he been a hard man would have fucking leathered the wife beating twat on that particular occasion.

Softest without a doubt was Berkovic

I suppose there is thuggery which Thatcher and Tiatto were good at, although for intimidation aside from Bellamy, not a single one of the current crop appear to be all that arsed.

Gerry Gow was a case that springs to mind for sure. With that toothless sort of grin that made the opponents' blood chill.

But Andy Morrison is a very, very hard case. He came from a fishing family in Plymouth, with family Scottish roots obviously ('Jock' Morrison), and started at Argyle of course. Remember loads of stories about him down here in those days. The frightening thing is he was the smallest of his brothers too.

He had the added benefit in the hard man stakes of not being too cool and reserved, if someone deserved a damn good thumping they got it - as his flirtations with the criminal courts will testify. I believe the maniac was recently slated on here for following a guy after a Sunday League match and beating the shit out of him on the way home. I'm sure the guy should've known better.

Someone like Tiatto or Gow I could see me having a good run-in with when I was young and fit. With Morrison it's best to remember an alternative engagement quick!

But aside from his lack of speed he was a very, very good player.

While we're on the subject, I like the fact that now if one of our players is being squared up to and surrounded by players from the other team most of our players won't just stand there and let them deal with it themselves. I can't remember who it happened to the other week but I remember that most of our players made sure they weren't singled out. It used to piss me off when it would happen to one of the kids and people like Dunne would just stand there and do nothing!
