Tevez is a notoriously bad trainer, he has always just been about the match day, I dont think now is any different to the rest of his career

Not strictly true (or rather I agree in principle but...), he came back for the preseason as a lean little fucler who was well up for it and who had been apparently training like a nutcase on his own all summer - if that carried over into the first part of the season then it might explain why Bob is pissed off with him lately to the extent of trying to make a point.

Tevez has lost a lot of weight and I personally think hes lost strength as well. When a boxer drops too much weight too quick they loose power. Personally I cant believe they don't have him work with a sprint coach. I remember when he scored that at home to chelsea (1-0) he doesn't seem to have that pace or power now. But looks the fittest he ever been.

Tevez lost fat though, not muscle mass, so he shouldn't have lost any power. I think if anything he's lost concentration.

Imo Tevez will always gives 100 percent. Tevez has lost confidence in front of goal. Tevez at 12 stone (fat or slim) will be easier to push off the ball than Tevez at 11 stone. When I mentioned the chelsea goal Tevez was quite heavy but managed to knock the ball past a defender and then out muscle them. At the moment he tries to knock the ball past a defender and the defender pushes him off the ball. Imo this will not help his confidence. So strength and speed work would sort these issue s.

Why are we discussing this again? A better title to thread could have been "What has happened to Aguero?"

He is struggling to emulate a great 1st season. Not too unusual. Progress most often isn't linear. More often it is 1 step back, 2 steps forward. I'm not too worried

I dont care if he jacks on chappys feet everyday in training. Lets face it, training, as Allen Iverson famously said, is "training." Deliver it at match time and all is forgiven.

Training enables someone to deliver 90 minutes worth of effort - slackers in their late 20's run the risk of only being able to deliver 60 or 70 minutes worth.

The thing with someone like tevez, is that he is clearly a naturally fit lad. Runs his heart out generally on the pitch and like bellamy leaves nothing else out there.

So Tevez not training hard is not the reason why he play poorly for the FIRST part of a game is it? And therein lies the problem with the argument that Tevez must train, its 100% about his attitude on the day and whether his head is on the game, sort that out and he is world class, but even at 50% he is not far short of a top top player and always capable of something special.

Whatever Tevez had to prove at the end of last season, or in his first 2 seasons with us, we need it back. If we cant find it, then by all means sell him on.

You have to wonder what a motivator like Jose could do with Tevez though, the combination could be frightening

I've thought the same thing. Not that I would advocate a channge of manager, but I do wonder how well some of the players would play under a different manager... particularly the aguero tevez partnership.

Yeah, my single biggest gripe with Mancini is my personal perception that he causes the group to play within their abilities most of the time. Whilst the results and trophies come in, he is arguably untouchable but when the squad have a wobble like this season, the "what could a real man manager do with this lot" question is the obvious one.

But then again, Tevez played the best football of his career when Bobby made him the focal point of the team, captain, perhaps to the detriment of the team as a whole, but bobby showed he knew how to get the best out of tevez before it all went off the rails.

I think Carlos just needs to be loved to get him playing at his best

Have they played much together for Argentina?

I don't recall Tevez ever forming a good partnership with anyone. I think he plays best as a lone striker.

No they haven't at all. And I remember hearing that they wouldn't be compatible.

Then I saw how they played together and I believed we had the best strike partnership in the league going into this season.

Mancini disagreed.

They started both the CS and the opening game together so I'm not sure Mancini disagreed.

Have they not been our most regular partnership this season?

Yeah, very strange statement OD, what's all that about?

The preferred attack has been aguero and tevez this season? It certainly didn't seem that way to me.

How do we check?

I suppose the stats will back it up one way or another but from the outset it looked like Sergio and Carlos were Mancini's favourite choice. The injury to Sergio quashed that realisation but since his return I'd suggest they've had the majority of starts together, even if it's not worked out to be the best.
