So Wenger has said barca don't want to sell him.

There must be a way we could pay a loan fee with an option for him to go back if it didn't suit either party?

He really does seem the most likely option as fad as top quality goes.

Failing that, grab darren bent or someone who is an out and out goal scorer.

On a loan till the end of the season would be a smart move. If Barca will play ball, which I doubt.

I doubt it too.

We would have to pay what they required, for a 31 year old just back from injury.

I'd rather keep a space open in the squad for a young, top striker in the summer & have a player for years rather than just a quick fix.

Would do nicely as a short term fix.Himself and Silva would love to play together again.Could be up shit creek if we have a couple of injuries and have not replaced Mario.Losing Mario has not exactly broke my heart but the prospect of allowing him to leave and not replacing him is a real worry.

Yeah I only noticed the mirror were reporting it after I started the thread.

Well, hopefully we try. I always wanted him at city amd I think his style would fit very nicely with our attack. There's a few years left in this lad imo.

I think you're right, he would fit right in, if sharp, but imo we should stick to the perceived plan of building a young team. It just stinks of Robbie Fowler to me. I'd have him on loan no prob.

Not a chance. . . . . . . . unless a non-manager purchase.

I watch pretty much every Barca game. He's definitely sharp still, and definitely still very bloody good. An absolutely clinical finisher with so much skill. He'd fit in perfectly well.

Obviously the worry is his age. I'd be delighted if we could get him though. There aren't many better.

Part of the "question" about RVP was his age but quality is quality

Yep....RVP is younger to be fair, but he's a good example of how it can go perfectly right.

The question about RVP is still his age (& his fitness record) imo. I don't think many people doubt the quality of these players but is it the way we should go ?

Not in my opinion it isn't. If they were going on free transfers or something then fair enough but with all the scouts & Godknowshat we are putting together, we really should be in a position where we indentify & sign the next big thing rather than taking on 30 year old strikers imo. This season would have been just about acceptable to sign RVP if we'd ditched Mario in July, but we should put all that behind us now & build for the future imo.

I recon we should prune the squad & replace the nearly men with young, top quality players.

A few years from now, we will be talking about somefucker & wanting to spend £50 mil on them. Sign them now for 20 instead & skip the RVPs & Villas. If it means taking an extra season to get where we want to be; do it anyway. If we fill the squad up, we have no room for young stars.

Great post Ted. But there is no doubt in my mind villa cutting in from the left and taking passes from Dave would get us a lot of goals.

What about a winger of some sort: we already have three top quality strikers, albeit two that are midgets.

Why do we need to buy someone? Its not like Balotelli has contributed. John Guidetti would have contributed more in the last 2 weeks than Balotelli has in the last 6 months.

There is no need to panic buy and lock ourselves into an expensive contract with David Villa.

Does anyone really think dzeko is a top quality striker? Top quality? A useful one, but really top quality, among the best?.
Tevez for some reason seems he have lost his goal touch. Is it accurate to say we have 3 top quality strikers at the moment?

We need to buy someone because we have lost a striking option. We also need to buy someone because the difference between us and united was the purchase of a striker.

And now, more than ever, we need to sign someone like villa because we need a lift.
