The disgrace that is Stoke FC

Postby michaelcityfan » Sat Jan 26, 2013 4:01 pm

Another forgettable match against Stoke at least we won first time since 1999. I could not bear to pay even £20- to watch the potters, the commentary mentioned that as a good deal but with one team playing football its poor value. I hate that thuggish long ball head tennis they play, the pitch grass probably left long to thwart passing sides like us. That disgusting tackle on Garcia, even their mangers tactics, dress sense and well everything about the club maybe except the fans. Its time they are flushed out of the Premier league, you may begin to sense I don't like them. To crown it all a back row of six AT HOME! FFS What a shower of shit.

The fans boo passing football. The manager's a degenerate. The players are cowardly and dirty non-footballers. What's not to like?

I don't mind them at all. Nice to have some physical play in the league and not just pansies falling over when they're breathed on,

Agreed.

I do not recall us complaining when Joe Royals kick and rush football got us out of the Championship ahead of a far better footballing side in Ipswich.

Their fans are a bunch of ignorant morons. They boo players like David Silva but worship any of their players who can throw the ball far.

They spend most of the match booing anything and everything and it is pretty obvious that they don't appreciate good football.

The sooner they get relegated the better.

there's more than one way to play the game, and you stick to what you're good at. stoke could've easily nicked a 1-0 win today playing with their tactics, but if they'd tried to play "football", we'd have leathered em.

what i've found distatsteful about stoke is the last few times they've come to eastlands, and basically given up before the game has begun, can't think of any other side ever who've so blatently done that. no wonder the stoke away support has gone from OK to pitiful.

A bit strong criticism for me.
Its the variety of styles in the PL that make it so watchable.
Stoke are a big challenge at home, with their biased crowd intimidating the officials and away players.
However to overcome them builds self belief and character in our side. We will get worse crowds in the CL at Napoli and Galatasaray.
I am not a fan of the way they play but they have limited resources and it is effective.
Some of their players are OK, I doubt mind Sorenson or Crouch. Huth is a thug.

At the moment, there seems to be a bit of a rumour going around that Stoke, as a side, are slowly evolving and starting to play a little bit of football.

I don't know if this is a myth being perpetuated by the Club, or if the Stoke players are heavily disguising their footballing skills and technique, to throw people off the scent. However, as long as we take six points off them every season, I don't care two hoots how they play.

They have been against some of the lesser clubs (did I just say that) but when they come up against the top clubs they revert to type.

Yeah I agree with that. They deserve better than to watch their team having a camping trip in their own penalty area.

I think Newcastle have also let themselves down at our ground, playing like we're some sort of death machine.

The bigger question that the stoke management and fans should ask themselves is if they'll get any further during pulis. I mean there's this myth that their team is built on next to nothing but their wage bill and their transfer sums have been quite high. They also have a sugar daddy, although not as rich as ours. If there's still some cash in his wallet, it might be the time for stoke to see what a new manager could bring them.

I do have time for their fans after their graciousness in defeat in the cup final a couple of years ago. Granted I wasn't there in '98 when they were raining bricks down onto the heads of City fans.

Anybody who admires the team, though, by extension admires Pulis, and that is a bridge too far. There's nothing admirable about being unwilling or unable to play cultured football from time to time. I don't mind a little blood and thunder, but he makes Fat Sam look like Guardiola in comparison. Also, he hates us and he's snidey ("if Peter's gotten away with one then that's brilliant" after the basketball goal earlier this season, etc.).

He keeps saying that the only difference between Stoke and us is £200M, but if he had that kind of money he'd spunk half of it on bringing in the touchlines some more and making Kevin Muscat a lifetime club ambassador.
"Certainly our programme is a full one, but as a player and as a manager I've always felt that there is only one way to go into a season...and that's to try to win every game.... While we are in four major competitions we shall try to win four major competitions." - Joe Mercer

Don't like playing Stoke and they cause up a problem at theirs every time. However, they're where they are on merit, so deserve to be a solid, mid-table premier league team. Many of us have complained we haven't got a plan B against teams who won't come out and play, which in reality means playing like Stoke.

And yes, they're physical, but I'd rather that than the touch football Wenger and Blatter want.
