Chelsea have triggered the release clause in Newcastle forward Demba Ba's contract.
Ba, 27, has been given permission to speak to Chelsea and will miss Wednesday's game against Everton.
It is believed his contract contains a clause which allows him to speak to other clubs in the event of a £7m bid.
The Senegalese, who joined Newcastle from West Ham in June 2011, is currently joint-second top scorer in the Premier League with 13 goals.

Ba has scored 36 Premier League goals since arriving in 2011. Only Robin van Persie (64) and Wayne Rooney (44) have more in that era.
The clause in Ba's contract became active on 1 January.
Newcastle have attempted to negotiate a new deal with the Senegal international in recent months, which would remove the clause, but with little success.
Ba had stints at Rouen and Mouscron before moving to Hoffenheim in 2007.
The German club agreed to let him move to Stoke in a reported £6m deal in January 2011 but Ba failed a medical, according to the Potters, and the striker eventually secured a move to West Ham later that month.
The forward scored seven goals in 13 games, but invoked a release clause in his contract after the Hammers were relegated.
Newcastle needed a player to replace Andy Carroll, who had joined Liverpool for £35m, and signed Ba on a three-year deal in June 2011.
The Senegalese player scored 16 goals during his first full season as Newcastle finished fifth and qualified for the Europa League.
He is the club's top scorer this season and his departure would leave just Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi as the only senior strikers at the club. The pair have scored eight goals between them during the current campaign.

How fucktarded are Stoke that he "failed a medical"? Amazing.

I can't imagine for a second that Xabi Alonso is available in this window. No chance. Does someone have a legit link that mentions that he is available?

cheers

Liverpool sign the Big headed greedy bastid for undisclosed fee
Liverpool have announced the signing of Chelsea and England striker Daniel Sturridge for an undisclosed fee.
Sturridge, 23, is believed to have had a medical at Liverpool last month ahead of the January transfer window.
"I'm humbled and happy to be here," he told liverpoolfc.com . "I've not signed here to play for a couple of years and then move on.
"I've signed to be here for as long as possible. It's a humongous club - for me, one of the biggest in the world."
Sturridge, who has made only one Premier League start this season, added: "To have the fans and world-class players we have here is amazing."
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers was keen to add to his striking options after letting Andy Carroll join West Ham on loan in August and then missing out on former Fulham striker Clint Dempsey as the summer window closed.
Sturridge scored 13 times in all competitions for Chelsea last season, including 11 in the Premier League.
But a hamstring injury has limited his opportunities this season and he has not featured for the European champions since the 2-1 defeat at West Brom on 17 November.
The forward started his career at Coventry City before being bought by Manchester City in 2006 as a 16-year-old in a deal worth an initial £50,000. He finished top-scorer as City lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2008 before joining Chelsea the following year.
Sturridge made his England debut against Sweden in November 2011, going on to add another three caps to his tally. He was also part of the Great Britain team at the Olympic Games where he scored two goals for Stuart Pearce's team.

Any truth in the text I had from my mate watching from Thailand that Javier Mascherano was in the tunnel pre-match?

Now the would be a good signing

In a heartbeat mate, quality player and proven prem class. Rolls Royce of a player IMO

This is a very good shout. He would be the ideal replacement for Barry and getting him ASAP would make the transition from Barry's inevitable decline smoother.

Why are you writing Gaz off ??? He has been a great success for us ( especially in mancini's reign ) , alonso is the same age and therefore not a long term proposition.

Well maybe, just maybe, I though Alonso was about 4-5 years younger than Barry when in fact, both were born in the same year? I retract my above statement.
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

just read that Tal Ben Haim might sign on a free for QPR ... who he has apparently been training with since leaving portsmouth.

TBH, I think we're missing out if we don't at least put in a bid. What do you lot think? He's only 30 ...

I see Joe Cole's off to the Hammers with a £3 mil pay-off from Liverpool. I wonder if it gets the same hype as Adebayors move to Spurs?

Daylight robbery that, Liverpool really have shot themselves in the foot so many times in the transfer market especially with the English players they have signed.I would have thought Qpr under Harry would have been a better fit for Cole than Fat Sams style of play.I suppose he started off a hammer so probably wants to finish up with them.He was a real talent but its all gone pear shaped since he joined Liverpool, at the time he was available from Chelsea I remember being hopeful City would sign him.I wonder what Walmai makes of this transfer?

Indeed. browse back to my dream posts since when I joined... probably my favourite midfielder since the True Paddy Vieira in his glory days and probably if it wasn't for the 2 years difference in age, probably the only midfielder I'll have ahead of DDR, ideally.
Given a fair value for money on both, though I'd get De Rossi, who might grant 3 seasons at the top yet.

===================================================================================================

Serious Rumours from Italy.

Nothing certain, nor ITK.
All the major Clubs are seriously undertaking a strict spending review deemed to offload huge wages:

AC Milan sent Galliani in Brazil in the brink of selling out either Robinho and Pato, both on wages in excess of 10millions gross.

Inter: SADLY (for the Title Race), my guts feeling is that Purple_Nose might have Snejider with ease if he actually wants. Relation between Club and players are good enough to arrange a parted way with mutual satisfaction but Wesley had made it clear that his time in Italy is over. Plus the Moratti Group (SARAS) is sailing in very dire financial waters: rumours and logic say that IF Rags are interested to an actual bid, they can have the Dutch for a bargain with mutual satisfaction by all parties involved. It's voiced that Moratti, a long time lover of Franky Lampard may try to play a trick with part of those money, providing that RA would be genuinelly interessted to offload him and Franky won't play the hardball on wages demand.

Roma: no realible rumors on DDR, but his technical relationship with Zeman is there for everyone to see and also several Italian FA officials are moaning about the fact that such a player cannot have steady games under his belt. Roma has officially presented the business plan for building a brand new 60,000 seats Owned Stadium. emphasis on costs reductions of the Club's running down has been stressed during the project Unveil. Plus about 50% of the Club's shares are still under Banks control in quality of pawn.... ONLY Brian Marwood couldn't manage to close a bargain deal with such a desperate dealer.... :-) Please do not spread the voice, otherwise my moronic Fellow Countrymen might be tempted to hire his incompetence as an improvement on Berluskoni shame.... :-)
Ferran and Txiki are You there? toss the dices...

Napoli: Cavani's agent Raiola (same of Mario) had made clear to the chairman that they want a pay raise on the actual 8 millions gross, which is waaayyyyyy improbable to be even considered by Napoli's Chairman.... as it stands it pure bollox, but what reported in THE BOLLOX may have some ground, for a change and the combination of the same agent of Balotelli, together with the FACT that MCFC's market will be finally dealt by professionals - top professionals - might well see us having a very good laugh next summer.
