And although agint less attractive teams a larger stadium would have empty seats, we will definatly sell more than we have at present against the more attractive teams, that and once ( yes I belive they will ) our team gell properly, and results get better ( ie not drawing against the likes of Burnley) we would sell more than the present capacity against the lesser attractive teams also.
I feel an expansion is very much needed .

I think my thinking is backwards to most people...don't know whether it's because of our past but aside from the derby I look forward to playing crap teams like Hull more than Chelsea...just for the fact we have more chance of winning...so I always make the effort to go against crap opposition haha

I do something similar, I go to all games, but if one of the fellas that I attend with has a bday then we pick the nearest easy match and have an all day boozy sesh, its never as good if you lose on a drinky day.

If we are extending the stadium I do hop it looks as good as Lahad's mock-up of the 3 tiers behind the goal - that pic should be used as the Blueprint.

Ha ha, I am not arsed if we get more in, I dont have a problem with it. I just like things the way they are, I hate glory supporters and influxes of fans (like in our return to the prem) I am a miserable old fucker who doesnt like change, I still pine after Maine Rd.

I have been to both Old Trafford and The Emirates on matchdays, they are not pleasant places to be, maybe my view of them shitholes is clouded by the amount of cunts in and around their stadiums and the fact that i've never seen us win in either.

I wonder if they'll let me change my username to Grumpy Old Git

The average attendance in our promotion season was 33,061.
In our first season back in the Prem it was 34,565
This was not down to a massive influx of fans, but more to do with us cramming extra seats in at Maine Rd. We were nearly at the point where we had deckchairs and park benches around the perimeter of the pitch. We also had a waiting list for season tickets, reputed to be over ten thousand names long, which was used when we moved to CoMS. This resulted in us having as many season ticket holders in that season, than the average attendance was at Maine Rd. That is when we got the influx of fans, not on promotion back to the Prem.

john@staustell wrote:Now that we are firmly placed in third in the Premier attendance stats, and selling out against the likes of Burnley and Hull, one of the main arguments ('we should sell what we have first!') for not extending/rebuilding/removing the stadium seems to be disappearing. And as we haven't actually played anyone decent at home yet except Arsenal, we are now in a position of losing potential attendance money this season already, let alone when we get successful.

And Spuds, Everton, Dippers (maybe whenever) and others are sliding out plans to surpass us.

So, I know I bring up this chestnut every now and again, but anyone got any updated sneaky inside info from City or the council?

I don't get that....the Swamp I agree with but the Emirates is a mint ground

It's an extremely pleasant place to be IMO.....if you're gonna lose at least do it someplace nice against a decent footballing side

Just the point I was going to make, but seeing as you've made it twice already...............

And it seems attendances overall are down in the Prem. Around 5%.

I think the overall attendances being down has got something to do with the recession mate hopefully once things start getting back to normal game attendances will get back to normal. I don't think it helps Newcastle went down either with their so called huge fan following.

They're averaging over 40k so far this season, a long way ahead of the next best (Derby at something like 22k or 25k). (these figures are 'SSN understands...' figures though)

How do the season ticket sales go? I know the waiting list at Spurs is what made them want a new stadium, do we sell ours out?

55k was quoted on an old thread?

We dont always sell out week in week out.

A larger stadium will just mean larger patches of blue seating on the cameras.

Besides would you really rather struggle in the car parks, at the bar, getting to the toilets just because a load of disloyal gloryhunters want to revel in the good times, where were they in the bad...

Keep it as it is, an exclusive club for exclusive fans.[/quote]

duuuuude we cant be thinking like that if we want to be a big club, if we dont expand the stadium therell be real fans not being able to get a ticket at all never mind get a pint at half time or need the toilet after that pint. im not worried about a few glory hunters, fans or players, messi wouldnt play for us now but in a few years when were established in the CL players like that will come, without glory hunters we can never be a huge club in world football.

It sucks but thats the way it goes we just have to try and improve the atmosphere as well as attendance it would be horrible if the noise level stayed the samebut the stadium got bigger its already quite painful sometimes as it is

It's nice to look at but I'm not mad about it as a football ground. More like a cinema or theatre or something. Much prefer to go somewhere like Molineux or The Britannia where you have a proper atmosphere, good old fashioned ground with four stands. Dunno, maybe I need to accept change.

true, if we sell out every game, that means there are people that have tried and failed to get tickets, we need success before we think about it IMO

Yes this is where I fundamentally disagree with TGG. Can't account for the away support but if we are selling out against the likes of Burnley and Hull, which we are already (anytime) then we are already behind with the planning. It suggests that with games against SCUM, Dippers, Chelski we could easily get 10,000 more, but we cant get them in.

And we haven't started to win yet!!!

You plan in advance, not in retrospect!! You dont get an extra 20,000 seats by getting McAlpines in overnight.

Even if they started looking into this a year ago it is likely to be another 12 months by the time work even started on an increased capacity, by which time we are likely to be filling the stadium every week?
