Have you got a source for this? Googled it, but couldn't come up with anything. Got a mate who's a massive Charlton fan out here...

no internet source, no. but the gilksten (sp?) family tried to do it, got that from a very trusted ex-director of CAFC. he also said that they also proposed an expansion of the valley to 200,000, but the local council turned them down...and it was totally feasible and would have probably made them the biggest club right now..... on checking some stuff, i think he was telling the truth!

That's pretty fascinating. I love hearing 'what could have been' stories like that. Can you gauge whether the Gilksten family are well-known by Charlton fans (she's an ex-season ticket holder), or will I just be faced with a blank "what the hell are you talking about?" stare?

i'd be very surprised that a charlton fan wouldnt know the gilkstens. coz they are football cunts.

I thought it was Peterhead? Sure it was mentioned in a match report when Rangers played them on the first game of this season.

well, i dont wanna start an argument coz i've not been to arbroath or peterhead, but the back row of inverness caley thistle is practically in the sea????
Basically, we can all agree it's somewhere in Scotland, like the lowest life expectancy, highest crime rate and heaviest Buckfast consumption...

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

Non-football trivia: the character of Bryn Cartwright in Twin Town is apparently loosely based on Catherine Zeta-Jones's father.

Not true at all. Closest point of the Netherlands to Carrow Road is 114 miles. The centre of London is about 105 miles, and to get there, you have to reach the M25.

WW could well be right Andrew. For most of the time the M25 isn't a motorway, it's a sort of slow mobile car park.

The introduction of goalposts was caused by only 3 people bringing coats.
The very 1st football team....had nobody else to play.
If Wembley only opened in 1923, how did the builders get in in 1922?

Hehe, I googled the question first, and that was the main argument there, along with another motorway (M11?) being essentially a dual carriageway.

If we're comparing the distance of one in The Netherlands with the M25 then we must be talking as-the-crow flies. In this case, wouldn't the M1 or the A1(M) be closer? The A1(M) definitely skims East Anglia.

Also, apparently, in Dover you're never more than 22 miles from a frog.
