it's not droll carl. There are other, better words for it
So...
what word (other than droll) best describes City's current performances?
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

i remember back a few years ago, when people were talking about mourinho and chelsea playing really boring football. Chelsea fans were complaining, even though they had just won the title, because the football was boring.

Lots on here said they were being totally spoiled and that it was ridiculous that they were being so successful and complaining about how they got it. Interesting to see how people feel now that we are going through our own "boring" patch after winning the league.

Dunno , Droll was word of the day in head office so I thought it appropriate to use on here...seems fair to me.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

Carl,
I totally agree with yours and Piccs wish to see us entertaining, sweeping all before us and knocking the goals in for fun, but how often do we see the most entertaining team at the top? The most successful teams that bag the trophies and honours are usually the ones who can grind games out when necessary and dig out points in wars of attrition.

I think City can do both. When teams park their buses, we are usually capable of digging out a goal or two and getting the points. Teams are closing the door on us ever tighter and that means less or no room for showboating flair.

Personally and this is where I differ from Piccs, I don't blame Mancini for some of the dull but largely successful stuff. What we do is now largely defined by how the opposition defensively sets up. Often/usually, they set up, not to win themselves but to slow and/or stop us.

It is a measure of their fear of us and even the rags came to the Etihad in the last derby and parked their bus. The rags scared of what City may do to them?....Now that gives me reason to grin.
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

That said I think they correlate with my opinion on Mancini = domestic good, Europe = less so. Pretty obvious I'd say. Not seen much to see that that will change in the future either, despite you crediting him with a phantom win this term.

Surely Roberto's record on Europe remains to be seen. We've had two very tough groups in 2 years and as the saying goes "Rome wasn't built in a day".

If we're talking about historic managers and other teams then we may as well bring Inter into (no pun intended!) it. Mancini had scudettos coming out of ears but, again, his team were seen as a consistent failure in Europe.

I agree with your other points, but I genuinely believe we should be competing better in the Champions League - this season and last.

I just want to point out here that I'm not against Mancini at all, because it probably sounds like I am. I think his achievements domestically have been solid and will continue to be, in Europe I hope he proves me wrong.

2 big constraints remain though.

People have growing expectations and the premiership must remain the top priority.

Permanently I would argue.

FFP also dictates an evolutionary approach towards progress in Europe.

Also Roberto's situation at City is different from Inter and the last we need is a return to the bad old days.
