The word is 'talk', not agree to sign. I'm sure he 'talked' to the Russians too & is probably 'talking' to AC Milan now. We have been talking to Mourinho, to Ronaldo, God knows who else & will be talking to Pep Guardiola. Gary Cook told the truth about this kind of thing; it's what happens all the time. Cook said he actively looked around for possible replacements for a manager all the time, just in case. Mancini's agent wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't look for back up plans, same as Cook/Khaldoon wouldn't have been doing there's if they hadn't been looking at alternatives to Hughes, in case it went pear shaped. Soriano etc are doing it now, as is David Gill, Abramovic etc.

Bob knows what could happen at City & we know what can happen with managers. Both sides will be 'talking' to people all the time, just in case. You don't just do this stuff out of the blue; you have backup options.
