What is all this about?

Been away for best part of this week so might have missed earlier posts about why this is happening. If it is I suppose its disappointing but only to be expected in time.

I heard a rumour that after Doug let slip that Bellamy was perfectly fit when he pulled out of the Wales game a few months back, Hughes is fingering doug as the root of all evil in the club, the reason Owen Coyle managed to get his team to score 3 away from home, and Doug is the personification of the 5th column or whatever the fuck it is called.

Doug OUT - its all been your fault that opposition managers have worked out that we can't defend

Mate, Doug had nothing to do with that. It's all Alan Hanson's fault.

Haha, shame all this if it happens. Takes the club one step further away from the fans.

However, when you are practising attacking set pieces and its open all comers, suppose its only to be expected that access to training is restricted given whats at stake in the prem these days. However, I think Doug wouldn't and never has commented on a tactical practice other than commenting on whether there were more/less practice in certain areas.

Therefore would have thought "invited" persons would still be welcome - especially as Doug's kisses the managements' arse :) only joking pal, you do a great job for us and I'd be gutted if your reports stopped

WHEN THERES MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS OF POUNDS AT STAKE WOULD THE RICHEST FOOTBALL CLUB ON EARTH TAKE A PUNT ON LETTING SOME GEEZER (NO OFFENCE DOUG)THAT POSTS ON A FORUM THE CHANCE TO TAKE NOTES ON THE TRAINING AND PROMISE NOT TO TELL ON TACTICS????????????

LETS GET REAL HERE - THE CLUB ARE 100% RIGHT IF THEY GO ALL THE WAY AND STOP ANYONE THAT DOES NOT WORK FOR MAN CITY F.C. DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE TRAINING MATCHES.

I DONT THINK THEY WOULD BE ALIENATING THE FANS AT ALL ...IT,S COMMON SENSE IMO.

AND BEFORE ANYONE HAS A DIG - I ENJOY THE POSITIVE TRAINING REPORTS, BUT THE REALITY IS...DOES IT MAKE REAL SENSE TO LET JO PUBLIC WATCH AND RELAY TO ALL AND SUNDRY?

IM SURE THERE ARE SOME SET PLAYS THAT MUST BE KEPT SECRET.....

I agree on the principal mate, and I can only read between the lines and think that something recently that has been practised may have been nullified, and the suspicion will naturally fall on people watching training. There is too mucy at stake to allow that risk to remain, and whilst I enjoy the training reports and it takes the club a little away from the fans, if it means we win a pot or two, then Doug will have to get on with something else during the day.

As I said in my original post, there HAS been a precedent to a controversial issue reported by Doug where IIRC Craig Bellamy warned Doug about reporting certain things when he pulled out of the Wales squad, only to read on here that there was fuck all wrong with him a day or two later.

Tactically, it is difficult to describe a set piece in print and have sympathy for the view that Doug is harmless - yet, even such things as in the last couple of days such as practising at "high tempo", could quite easily for example allow Rafa to find ways to slow city down tomorrow.

On the whole, its a shame, but its the way of the world, and it is understandable even if we dont all agree.

Postby Douglas Higginbottom » Fri Nov 20, 2009 11:09 pm

What happens happens and life goes on. A couple of things though. The day Bellers turned up at training when he was " expected" to be with Wales I actually asked him if I should mention whether he was there or not. He said it didn't matter at all and in any event there were photographers there snapping away.( I think he might actually have said it doesnt matter they will write what they want anyway , which sounded like classic Craig)

Second I was told LAST season that the fences were to be covered so that nobody could see in. Work started on it within a week of me being told and that is exactly when Bowen so something like don't worry you are here more than we are so i will get you in. At the time I think I said I don't see how he would be able to do that but would wait and see.

Some of the fencing was covered but not very well and then it stopped. I was told a while later that the council had told them that they couldn't do what they were proposing for some reason relataing to the fact that where I stand was a public right of way. ( and obviously still is) That was all last season so the decision I must assume had been taken then that they didn't want photographers having access to take the pictures they wanted AND maybe that they didnt want any fans there either.

What would baffle me is , if they didnt want fans there , specifically me as I was there a lot why didnt they just say so rather than encourage my presence by welcoming me and talking to me ( and one or 2 others ) on a regular basis? In his involvement latterly Chris Nield has been very clear that the training reports I have put on here have NOTHING to do with the decisions taken. I have no reason to think he is not telling the truth. Have I ?

It's easy for photographers to spy on training and cause problems for the team. Don't think this has anything to do with Doug. He'd stop if they asked him to stop writing his reports. But it's hard to tell the guys who are only doing their job to sod off when Doug is standing there.

Thanks for sharing Doomy. If that's your plan for the weekend I don't want to know.

it's the packing tape protecting oneself from the rough edges which really freaks me out on that pic. it's just a touch too real isn't it?

Doug does need a glory hole tho. i stand by that.

This is just an idea- at 4am no less- so ridicule me if it's stupid.

What about a compromise whereby Doug is allowed to watch the training sessions, write a summary each day and then any forum regular who previously enjoyed his posts could 'subscribe' for something small like £5 for the season. All the subscriptions go to a deserving charity, Doug gets to see the training, the club get to look good on two fronts by welcoming in an ordinary fan on one hand, and throwing their weight behind a good cause on the other.

Anyone who's subscribed would get their report PM'd to them each day and that way, anyone with an agenda, be they from another club or whatever, wouldn't have access.

Slate away.

nice thought CTK, but not a goer in reality. people dont want to pay for anything these days and it also puts pressure on Doug as people have paid and want their report. Sometimes he cannot make it or might have other commitments. I would like to think of it as a labour of love for Doug and not a necessity. Good idea though

Is that the infamous "Glory hole"?
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
