Ireland need to get over it - Keane

Postby london blue 2 » Fri Nov 20, 2009 1:43 pm

Some true points if you ask me... not that anyone did.

Roy Keane has no sympathy for Republic of Ireland exit

Roy Keane has lambasted the Republic of Ireland's attempts to get their controversial World Cup play-off match against France replayed.

The Republic appealed to Fifa after their 2-1 aggregate defeat by France on the basis that the winning goal came after a blatant Thierry Henry handball.

But Ipswich boss Keane said: "They can complain all they want but France are going to the World Cup - get over it.

"France were there for the taking and Ireland didn't do it. Same old story."

The Irishman, who made 65 appearances for the Republic as a player, continued: "If I'd been there in the dressing room after the game, I wouldn't be talking about the handball. I'd focus on why the defenders didn't clear it. They should've cleared it.

"I'd be more annoyed with my defenders and my goalkeeper than Thierry Henry. How can you let the ball bounce in your six-yard box? How can you let Thierry Henry get goal-side of you? If the ball goes into the six-yard box, where the hell is my goalkeeper?

"These are skills and lessons you learn as a schoolboy.

"Ireland had their chances in the two games and they never took them. They had chances at Croke Park (in the first leg) and they had chances on Wednesday.

"They didn't take them, but it's the usual FAI (Football Association of Ireland) reaction - 'we've been robbed, the honesty of the game...' It's rubbish."

And Keane pointed out that controversial decisions went Ireland's way in the qualifying campaign, not least a harsh penalty award against Georgia which helped them to clinch a 2-1 qualifying win in February.

"There was one match against Georgia where Ireland got a penalty and it was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen which changed the whole course of the game.

"I don't remember the FAI after the game saying we should give them a replay."

Keane's antipathy towards the FAI stems back to the Pacific island of Saipan in 2002 when he left the team's pre-World Cup training camp, complaining that the facilities were sub-standard.

Despite the efforts of the media, Keane and manager Mick McCarthy failed to resolve the conflict and Keane missed the World Cup

He does have some relevant views in that to be fair.

Looks like Keane is relishing his opportunity at last to have a real go at the FAI.

He needs to get his own house in order first I think.....I've not seen Ipswich this year but I would guess their defending is not top notch by any standard, so having a pop at Ireland is a bit rich.....get you priorities right you deluded fucker!!

I dont think he does, how the game was played and Irelands missed chances have no relevance to the incident of cheating.
It might be something the Irish have to live with but the FAI were totally right to put in a complaint.

Maybe Keane should 'get over it' in relation to Saipan. Practice what you preach Roy. He is a bitter little boy struggling to cope in the mans world of football management and is using his views on the FAI and John Delaney to deflect attention from his own
shortcomings as a manager.

Raggy is it true that France were there for the taking?
Raggy is it true Ireland had quite a few chances and should have been quite a few goals ahead?
Raggy is it true that out of the gilt edge chances they only took one?

Im not saying Ireland shouldnt have complained and yes they did get cheated, what i was merely pointing out is that he did make some relevant points.

Just seen it on sky Keane was spot on, his words were true and strait to the point, they did have there chance and messed up. I was impressed in him he comes across as a man who is not afraid to say what he thinks and also does not hold back in giving criticism to people in power, if he thinks it has to be said he will say it good on ya Roy Keane

Love him or loath him, but he is speaking sense.

Time to move on.

It leaves a bad taste in the mouth but there is nothing more to be done.

We all know FIFA and UEFA are bent; they waffle on about FairPlay but its all bollocks.

Please dont call me that.I didnt see the game so I cant comment on the chances they missed but I have read about the incident.
Ive yet to see a game where a team doesnt miss chances.
And Ireland are not the best team in the world so the fact that they missed some chances just sounds like the normal ebb and flow of a game.
Ive said before that I realise that cheating is a part of the game,a part that I think cannot be got rid off, not a very good part of the game.
However I think the FAI were entitled to put in a complaint and the cunt that is k***e should realise that and be behind his country.

He comes across as a total cunt to me, a straight talking bloke? i don't mind that, if things need to be said then say it. Keane just shits on everyone he meets and upsets everyone he can. He has no mates apart from his wife and his dog. He will die old and lonely, hopefully very soon. Even his ex-teamates at the scum have said he is impossible to get along with because he's a dick. Nothing within a personality like that that impresses me tbh.
