Do you want the Republic of Ireland to

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Strange one this! I always back the home nations, in which I include Eire, in everything that is sport, however what I cannot stand is the opposite from our so called neighbours. The loathing that exudes from them (not all mind) is sometimes beyond the realms of reality. Where it comes from I can sort of understand when you look back in history, but to be truthful I find it quite pathetic in this day and age.

Anyway, I would suggest that most would want to see the French lose in anything they take part in, regardless of the opposition; it's just common sense ;-)

I know what you are saying here. History of the English and England is not taught in the English schools to much extent, however it is taught in Scotland, Wales and Ireland, which is probably why the hatred of the English continues and the English people continue to be bemused by it. Its only my conclusion, but what do I know.

Well the unofficial City Fans club in Zürich have called an extraordinary meeting for Wednesday . We're resolving some admin stuff apparently (to support the Ireland team against France). Any excuse for a beer !

It gives us the opportunity to plan and organise our positions and seats for Saturdays game against the pool. Very important as we don't want to be wasting time on Saturday with arguments about whose round it is and who has to bait the Scousers in the pub.

Yes, I want the republic of Ireland to....................

Yes

Shay deserves it.

I dont think they will though. As patchy as France are, ROI are no great shakes whatsoever.

I knew I'd have a claim to fame one day, that little lad (now 26 and built like a brick shithouse!) is my cousin. He's never lived that down.

As a mongrel of English and Irish I have the best of both worlds, can cheer on both sides and nobody questions it. I wouldn't know how to feel if the two met at the World Cup though, unlikely as it is.

firstly - i still can't believe that uefa were allowed to get away with seeding the qualifiers. fuckin disgraceful.

second, i haven't decided who to support yet in south africa, but both france and ireland would be possibles so tricky one...

Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries simply because you were born in it.

haha. england won't win it, won't play nice football, don't have any exciting players and will have the worst behaved fans. definitely not supporting them :-)

Don't think they will but I definitely want them to qualify, mainly for Dunney and Seamus........and it'd be nice to see the French knocked out

Inherently I do, mainly as I have previously supported them when they have been at a tournament more than for any reasons of family heritage or City players featuring.

But I have to say that I have been increasingly annoyed over the past years by meeting loads of Irish folk who were hell bent on supporting anyone but England.

Plus Trappatoni has (along with Liam Brady) been a proper arse about Stevie Ireland and I kinda hope they don't qualify just to teach them a lesson.

I am torn though.....whaddabout you lot?

I am with you Ant, in that I do hope they qualify for the big event, to see the likes of Shay Given, Richard Dunne and Robbie Keane on the world stage that they belong for being the best that their country has to offer and in Given's case one of the Worlds best in his position.

Not sure how Trappatoni or Brady though have been arsie about or with Ireland, as it was he (Ireland) who chose to quit the International scene, it was Ireland who told them lie after lie to get out of the squad instead of telling them what HAD happend, like a grown man should have done, Trap is a dad as is Brady and I am sure they would have excused him if they knew the truth, the fact that they were lied to 3 times or more (whether Ireland's missus told the original lie or not is not the issue), must have pissed them off a tad, it would any manager of any team/club/organisation etc.

I want ALL the nations with City players in to be at any World Cup, that is why I would have loved it also had Ecuador and Bulgaria been able to qualify for the competition proper instead of missing out.

I'd like to see them there simply for Given and Dunne to play in the world cup again as the next one (2014) they will be getting on abit, well Shay might be alright but Dunne will have retired by then I'd imangine.

Plus the French look shite under that nutter manager of theres and I expect them to crash out in the group stages if they qualify like they did in the Euro's.
