I really do still think we can and will finish in the top 4.
All seasons have their high and low points and I believe we're experiencing a trough that we will eventually pull out of and go on to better things.
Will I be disappointed if we finish outside the top 4?...YES.
Will I throw a tantrum and start to rant about it?...NO.

Sooner rather than later, this club is gonna put siverware on the table and compete at the highest level.
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

I totally agree with you there mate. I said a while back that I thought we were having a remarkable start to the season considering, and that I was expecting a lull in our performances before coming on even stronger. This was mainly due to the honeymoon period and players enjoying there new surroundings, but that doesn't last forever.

I am fully expecting us to be over this period soon, possibly coinciding with the return of Robinho, and I'd like to think it will start this weekend ;-)

The 1st 2 lines of my signature would seem to suggest that in the 2 seasons that we actually won the League, things weren't all hunky dory all season.
I certainly remember some very poor games and results in 68. Now is not the time to panic nor get too depressed about things.

Out of the top 4 would be a disappointment but not unexpected. However if Villa or Spurs break in to the top 4 that would be an absolute sickener.

There will be plenty of twists and turns yet. At least we are having our bad spell now. It would be much worse if we started dropping easy points in March when the heat was on.

Who knows what will happen but 3-3 at home to Burnley and throwing away a 2-0 lead against Fulham are not results befitting of a top 4 side so right now im not expecting us to be fighting over tickets for the ECL group games next season.

The irony being that those who are the most negative almost certainly won't be in the hat to attend those games...

Hands up who hopes they can stream the League Cup final?

a fate that nobody could deserve less.
I'm sure something could be arranged:
£2 each in the "let's send Bob as a VIP" fund, for example.

I like the sentiment, nice thought, but I would listen to the match on my radio if the result was a win...... I would love to be there and will move mountains but lets see if we beat the arse first.

the main thing we need to respect - even over each other and our opinions - is how difficult a task it is to finish in the top 4 of the premier league this season. Its a massive, massive ask.
Do I think we have the squad with the capability to do it? Fuck yes.
Do I think we have the right man in charge? Yes. Not "Fuck yes" but yes.

My two concerns with not finishing top 4 is that we have a bunch of players at the moment who are used to playing there and some who were on the fringes thinking this was their best route to the holy land. If we fail to qualify, I wonder how many of our players would be patient with two years of not playing the top comp. The second concern is Platini, if we are in the competition three years before he asks to look at the books it would be a hard task to remove an established member of the elite community than a little upstart who thinks he can buy his way in.

I think your points are valid ones Slim but what do you do ?
Your Arsene Wengers/Mourinho's/Cappello's aren't available at the moment - to bring in Mancini or the like would be a much bigger gamble than leaving Hughes in charge imo

Not wanting to get into a Hughes debate on the non-official hughes debate thread (What fucking brainbox came up with that load of shite?) I think IF we were to replace the manager, we have about a two week window in which to do so. In saying that, I am pretty positive we could get anyone and Mourinho can say what he wants, you offer him unlimited funds and the chance to make a legacy to dwarf anything else he could accomplish elsewhere and he would come. In saying that, we need a new manager to have at least December to look at the team and prepare for January. And aside from a couple of dimwits, I don't think anyone is advocating the removal of the manager at this stage.
