**Attempts to drag the topic back on track**

In order to judge a players potential value before they sign I often jump on the selling clubs fan forums and gauge the reaction to the sale.

Usually the fan response dictates the level of player we are signings true worth, if they are panicking or crying judas we have netted a solid player (especially if its a direct rival doing this) if they are non plussed... well.. often doesn't bode well.

So with this in mind popped on to the Swansea forum last night and read the Sinclair threads and the general opinion is.. they think we are bonkers.

The words one dimensional came up a lot in relation to Sinclair, with many Swansea fans suggesting teams found him out by the end of the season and he was not effective. It appears he possesses genuine pace (which we need) but not a great deal else. Also the amount of people suggesting he misses sitters and can't cross for shit on the forum was genuinely worrying.

But most concerning is the sheer amount of delight they are getting 5.5mil off us for him.... bearing in mind he is young and English, I would have expected them to be very upset at the fee... which they are not....

I hope the jump in quality here at City pushes him on as a player however the Swansea lot seems to believe he will struggle to get in our first team as it seems he wasn't even the best in theirs.

Still in Bobby we trust!! We do need a pacy impact sub so i'm happy, I just wouldn't expect him to do much more than that.

Tevez left United and he had a poor first touch and didn't score enough goals. He didn't turn out to be all that bad.

It doesn't always work out that way though. It's human nature to slag someone off if they're about to lose them. Defence mechanism innit. It's like how we all go 'WELL HE/SHE WASN'T THAT GOOD ANYWAY' when we get dumped :)

To make ourselves feel better.

I can guarantee you that if we sold Tevez there would be some saying 'he's not that good anyway and we can definitely do without him and blah blah blah' etc...

Not saying Scott Sinclair is great, but i am saying the Swansea fans are probably overreacting a little. Might be worth searching for older threads about him when he wasn't linked to anyone else to get a fairer reaction - even then people on forums tend to overreact. Dzeko's slagging off on here being a great example. Dzeko's a very good player and we're lucky to have someone like him in the team, yet he's vilified sometimes. Boggles the mind.

This is true but in the Dzeko threads and even the Carlos threads at the height of his villainy there were those who stood up for him and fought for what they saw as a great player.

Honestly there is not a fan saying that on their forums.. it's all cheerio... good business talk... which I find pretty odd.

Even back in the old days when we didn't have a pot to piss (you could say when we were swansea like) when players like DJ, Distin, Berko, Elk or Fowler left us, players who played an active part in our team (like Sinclair does) left there was a balance of opinion. Love and hate.

I can honestly not remember a single player leaving thread in the old days were we all said "great deal for the club" when talking about a first 11 player leaving.. Even bloody Andy Cole.

It's all a bit weird imo... maybe its because they are welsh... I dunno...

That's more a measure of how mature the fanbase from that forum is rather than anything concrete about the player, surely.

If Scott Sinclair turns out to be brilliant for us, I will be pleasently surprised & take my hat off to Bob for spotting something I haven't.

If he turns out to be shite, I will pretend Brian Marwood forced Mancini to sign him & think he's a right wanker for not getting him off the wage bill quick enough.

If this is true, I'll be shocked but trust Bob. It wouldn't be amongst my top 50 signings though.

Home grown quota maybe ?

Me too, he was a Chelsea youth product and didnt make it for them, that in theory means he won't be good enough for us, but you never know. For 5.5 mill imo its worth a try.

Interesting.

Most of my friends are Swans season ticket holders 9some for 3 or 4 seasons, and some for 10+. I used to be a season ticket holder there, too). The figure being banded about amongst them is 8 mill, which they consider a fair price.

Since Rodgers's departure, most have felt consigned to their team being disassembled. The general mentality is that, if they can avoid relegation this season, they'll slowly do a 'reverse Stoke', hopefully with enough financial clout to establish themselves over the next 4-5 seasons. 20-25 million from players and the compensation from Rodgers should do the trick. However, they all add the caveat that this is being unfair on Laudrup, as he's untested, and could possibly strengthen the squad.

All in all, they're resigned to losing him, not glad he's going.

It would be interesting to see the joining dates of these fans that are making the comments. Is it on planetswans?
