I agree with both point of views (and can understand why people here are so passionate about getting their side across) ... thing is yes we are a better team than last season without any signing ... we have got Tevez in form and available for the full season, we have Balo matured another year and hopefully he'd have learnt something from last season ... just live Silva was so much better in his second season with us so will we see Aguero and Nasri improved this year ... and the biggest plus, all of them have had a great season of ups and downs together as a team and winning the league as a unit under the belt so hell yeah we are better than last season already ...
Now I also agree with the needing new signings theory. Yes United is better off with Kagawa and Powell and Chelsea with Hazard and Oscar and Arsenal with their signings BUT all of them needed signings for improving their core teams while we need players for cover, not the core starting XI ... All their new signings are going to draft straight into starting XIs while I seriously doubt whoever we sign will simply walk into our first team ...
Whatever the players say on the face of it when they welcome new signings on camera, every new player coming in unsettles the current squad because someone in there sees the incomer as his potential replacement ... so maybe no new players in is a blessing in disguise and helps the current squad gel together even further ... maybe Mancini knows it too, and you can't really believe what the press says about anything, can you? Hell cant even believe what Mancini says ... now he says RVP is not coming here, he also said we won't win the league last year now didn't he? So we'll see who or what comes or doesn't and how we start off this year but I have no doubt that even with the current squad we'd be stronger this year than last ...
The thing I remain pissed however about is our inability to ship the fringe players out ...
Great post, AG7. There's a lot to be said for everyone growing together this season and not bedding in a bunch of newcomers. Aguero was outstanding in that regard, the way he took to the PL. On the other hand some cover wouldn't go amiss so long as it's real quality and not costing stupid fees/wages. I do have a couple of worries which aren't to do with incoming transfers.
a) While hoping RVP stays away, I do think he could improve United's threat substantially for 2 or 3 years IF (big if) he stays fit. They need him more than us and may yet take the gamble. Let's hope he slinks off to Italy.
b) 50 years of supporting them makes it hard to consign "typical City" to the dustbin. There is massive expectation this year from all quarters and, for once, it 's not blind faith. Nearly everyone has us as favourites to retain the title. So what if we start the season badly and then implode? Alongside the flash cars parked at Carrington each day are several prams stuffed with toys...
Fook me. We just won the league. I can't stand the view from this height!
