Cudicini hurt after bike crash

Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has been injured in a motorbike crash in London.

The Italian has been rushed to hospital after suffering injuries described by the police as 'possibly life-changing'.

Cudicini's BMW superbike collided with a Ford Fiesta on Forest Road, Walthamstow at 10.30am on Thursday morning.

Tottenham have confirmed Cudicini fractured his wrists and injured his pelvis in the accident.

A statement on the club's official website said: "Carlo Cudicini has fractured his wrists and injured his pelvis after being involved in a road accident this morning.

"The 36-year-old Italian goalkeeper has been admitted to hospital and undergone scans under the supervision of club medical staff.

"The club will update supporters on Carlo as soon as there is any further information."

A police spokesperson confirmed: "A 36-year-old male suffered injuries described as possibly life-changing and was taken to an East London hospital for further assessment and treatment."

I always thought it was written into footballers contracts that they were not allowed to own bikes. I certainly wouldn't ride one if I was a pro footballer.

Just thinking imagine if a player was bought for 20m (i know he wasnt) and then the next day went sky diving or summit and something went wrong, surely something would be in there contract about this?

It's a really shame this. I always thought he was a great keeper and somewhat unlucky not to play more games as he gave way to Petr Cech.

I actually thought we should have snapped him up ourselves as a back-up to Given instead of letting Spurs get him.

I seem to recall David Dunn suffering head injuries from a MC accident a few years ago too and Rovers being worried he might not recover fully.

I am not sure if there are any insurance restrictions that prevent pro footballers riding bikes, but I'd expect their individual contracts with the clubs to prohibit it if not. I know film stars have such clauses in their contracts as Ewen McGregor has to fit in his riding adventures (Long Way Round & Down) between films.

Either way I am sorry to say I think broken wrists and pelvis spell the end of his career at his age, which is very sad indeed.

In the 2005 I was riding with two friends in Scotland when one of them collided with a Range Rover and suffered a broken pelvis (and other injuries). His pelvis took ages to heal and was never the same again.

Having an operation on his wrists and his pelvis today. I can't see him returning to football at the standard he was after operations like that, especially on his wrists, that must be the place that gets hammered the most on a goalkeeper.

At 36 years old why would he inconvenience himself trying to get fit again, the injury will take a good half year to clear up, in my opinion he might call it a day and go into coaching. He is a very lucky man to still be alive after that accident and i don't think he will be allowed on a bike again not until he quits the game

Fixing wrists is not too difficult, but people can and do die from breaking the pelvis. Its also a difficult bone to get back in place properly so breaking it badly can often lead to a limp. Maybe that is the biggest lisk.
