How do we rate this season?

How do we rate this season?

Postby Avalon » Mon May 14, 2012 11:07 am

Not City's season, but the whole PL as a whole.

People have been saying that many find this to be the best season in the history of the PL. Obviously, us winning it makes it easy for us to decide that this was the best season, however, aside from us winning, what did you guys thought of this season?

I thought it was a great season with obviously the tensions running really high at the final match day. So many twists and highs and lows. It was an unbelievable season.

The best, no question.

Even from a neutral point of view.

Before yesterday there were many who thought that it was average, mainly due to their own side's performances. Yesterday changed that though, every single football fan got engrossed in the best finish ever and when our final goal went in each and every one of them felt something that they'd not felt in years.

Gotta agree with Beefy.

Yesterday was possibly the only time in PL history that the European Slots, Relegation and the Title was ALL up for grabs on the same day. It's been a season of pretty poor quality from some of the established sides like Liverpool and maybe unexpectedly Chelsea, a new champion, three teams who were promoted all survived, and some of the real dead wood finally ended up being relegated.

It has had two teams who thought they were home and dried both surrender huge leads, and as for the finish yesterday - well, that was something that will go down in folklore. The highs and lows of this season, have been unsurpassed in my opinion, even for neutrals

I do not believe any football fan could have not been engrossed in what happened yesterday, and after 38 games to have that level of excitement and intrigue right down to the last few seconds of the season, for me makes it the best ever for entertainment - albeit not really for outright quality.

I agree with all of that.
As far as overall excitement, and trying to look the whole league rather than just as, this was unparalled I feel. Quality of football has been better in the past though. We played some of the best football ever seen in this league but rags, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool weren't able to match some of their best seasons. As far as quality of football goes, second best team was Swansea.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

There's not been a season like it - not even Arsenal's. Add in the FACT that we were playing the officials as much as the opposition and it becomes an even greater achievement, won with virtually the last kick of the game (and the season, considering how deep in time-added-on we scored).

Speaking to a rag mate last night and even he felt it was the best season he could remember. Look at some of the results early on or how well the promoted teams have done, especially against the 'big' teams. Blackburn - down, then safe, then down. Wigan - down and out and then turn in CL contenders. So many games with something resting on them on the final day. A title decided in the last minute of the season.

Also saw yesterday that it was the highest average goals per game (2.8) since ... 1967-68.
