John I think your falling into the trap of believing that the online and offline world are the same. A possible 86, 87 or 89 points is an immense total and one in which ever Manchester City fan is proud of and will talk about to their mates for years to come.

However, online is all about FTW. Facebook Twitter and forums are full of anonymous ppl giving abuse about failure and giving it large about success, for some reason this is how the Internet culture has developed I do not know why but that's the way it is and it's not a pleasent place to be when you are in the receiving end of the abuse.

Your question is not one about football fans but more about the modern day culture of social media interaction and the rise of the troll.

With the way those bunloaf terraced houses were around Manchester at that time and the fact that the local pub was the social centre of the community, we lived very much closer then. People these days have a tendency to go in and shut the door.

John comparing Manchester and the local pub to the internet is bonkers i can log on to a social media website say some something about City and be nailed by anonymous people left right and centre and argue all day long.

Or i can just log on here.

I'm not making any mistake Mate, I am just asking a question and your post has validity. Personally, I agree that the question is probably more about societal values and culture of today, rather than football.
But is not just online that I perceive the difference, though I accept it is part of the issue. But hasn't the interaction on the web only in some cases replaced the interaction that went on between fans in the local pub, at work, school and even in the home?

No because of the anonimity issue. And the "distance" too, i.e. not in the same room, anonymous or not!

You should take a leaf out of Citys management and playing staff...they are like us..happy but not going overboard.

I just dont get fans like you going mental before the 6th number comes in.

Heres some Mancini advise for you John.

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has ordered his players to keep calm and carry on as they close in on the Premier League title. "In one game, it can change. It's in our hands and we are playing at the Etihad Stadium. But it doesn't change anything.

"We need to keep our concentration and our good attitude like we have in the last four or five weeks.

"We can talk after Sunday, not today. It is too early."

Carl,
Sorry mate but that was not thee question I was asking Pal. I understand and respect where you are coming from. As emotional being, we are kindred spirits. You expel your feelings one way and I another but it is still emotion.
I was asking why such a massive difference between City fans then and what we have now. The circumstances are almost identical but the fans attitude and reaction to it are Worlds apart.
I an genuinely not being critical Mate. It has bewildered me all season and I would love to know why.

Maybe it’s the age of social media where it’s easier to have the piss taken out of you and so forth. I think back in the day you could say something and not be quoted on, nowadays people live their lives through the likes of Facebook/Twitter and it certainly can come back and bite you on the arse.

I for one will be having a good trawl of Facebook next Monday if we win the league but until then I will keep my counsel. I kept my counsel after Monday and have done for most of the season and will do until I see big Vinny lifting that trophy. I will be honest and say it hurts me to the core and winds up no end when the rags lord it over us so I try my best not to give them ammunition. At times i could kill as I love City so much and take it far to personally. Next Monday though........it’s open season lads!!!

Fu is right on this, it used to be just rags in the playground or work who could take the piss on a monday after a game, now you
get instant shit from people all over the world. This was is the shit I was getting from Rags after the Arsenal, all the images of Fat Ladies singing, Mancini launching the trophy etc, I don't want to fall into the same mentality of a arrogant Rag Twat.
I will wait until the job is done, then take the piss for months using all forms of social media, word of mouth etc.

I have been brought up watching the rags being successful and us not winning a trophy. Im now 35 and the only cup I've seen us win was last years FA cup. Weve had a lot of false dawns, when people predicted we would win something and we won fuck all. One time was when Alan Hansen predicted we would win the FA cup and we got knocked out at Maine Road.(the one with the pitch invasion). I have got a 62 year old uncle whos so nervous he cant even watch any match live and he's seen success. Through out this time the rags have loved it when we have fell flat on our faces, whilst they have won everything in the game. Now they are panicking, as the realisation hits home(I can smell there fear). I prefer to be quietly confident like the Mancini and the players. It will be the best day of our lives next week, but we still have got to win. One thing I have detested about the Rags and their 20 years of success is their arrongance. I for 1 will not be counting my chickens before they are hatched. Yes we have got a great team, but great teams win titles.
