Help for the school team

Postby Blueboylewis » Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:02 pm

I was gutted that the match was cancelled today but it has been arranged again for next week definitely so i will be looking forward to that! It will give me extra time to think about my tactics hey.

For a girls team i am just thinking about a simple 4-4-2 with the flankers bringing the ball forward but if they lose it they need to chase right back! I will have a tall defense at my disposal anyway so that should be ok! I have a couple of decent midfielders which is good and a alright front line.

Can any of you reccomend any tactics that will help me suceed? I want to make a good start to my coaching career and a win will eb the perfect way to start it of.

Also every week, I will tell you where and when the games are if you want incase any of you want to pop along but i am not saying you will want to lol.

FMTWF!

BBL as long as the girls undestand what you want, its fine. Tell them what you expect and keep it simple and just change it as you see as the opposition will probably have a good player that you need to stifle.

My advice is to play a formation that shoe horns as little as possible. If you don't have speedy wingers or strikers good in the air 442 is not the way to go.

Last season I took under 10's and a small squad with only one kid capable of playing up front so I used him as a lone striker with my best ball players playing wide midfield with instruction to cut in or pass and move. Also to make this work and stop the counters put my biggest work horse in the middle of the park and told him to run until he couldn't walk anymore.

Thankfully a kid I coached at futsal fancied a jump up from under 9's a few weeks in and I had my 2nd striker, but the point is play the formation that addresses the players strengths, I'd also air on the side of caution for your 1st game and set up not to lose. This diesn't mean park the bus as you'll invite attack, but don't go all out until you are sure your players will track back and defend.
Tracking back is overrated.

Lewis,
Can I just say that, having spoken with you face to face, you are a sharp kid. You probably know more about tactics than you realise. Trust your own judgement and be prepared to learn from your mistakes. Don't be afraid to fail...failure shows you the weaknesses and gives you your best lessons.
Most of all get the girls to enjoy themselves...AND YOU ENJOY IT TOO...You're too young to worry and go grey.
GOOD LUCK MATE.
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

Lewis don't think just because they are female they won't understand different formations. Just try out different things with them in training and you will soon find out who is good at certain things and who isn't. It all depends on what personnel you have at your disposel.

By the way were you at Platt Lane on Wednesday??

Try putting this in Off Topic and go 3-5-2. Stack that midfield.

I've seen school girls playing football in the past and the advice they are usually given I think goes like this: Tell all of them to chase after the ball at the same time and when they get the ball, to get so excited that they kick it (toe punt) away immediately while shaking their hands in the air above their shoulders. If a goal is scored, they have to all scream at the top of their voices doing the same hand shaking thing, and jumping up and down on the spot.

Don't over complicate things in your first game. You're still getting a feel for the team (not literally I hope....!) so screw the 3-5-2 and 4-3-3 shit for now. Do the basics, get them passing the ball and, most importantly, have them enjoying it and the rest can come later on.

As Mike Bassett said, "Four Four Fucking Two".

So how tall/short are these girls? When I watch kids teams playing on Saturday mornings I always wondered why they didn't shoot on sight. Anything high under the bar will score every time.

Shooting practice it is then.
